The 2023 MTV VMAs was a night where music was not the only thing celebrated — fashion was too! This year, the VMAs were held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, where they had a special pink carpet for all the celebrities to strut their best looks.

Mother Of the Barbz: Nicki Minaj
Starting off strong, the Mother of the Barbz, real-life Barbie, and the host of the night—Nicki Minaj! This Barbie went as a sexy, glamorous bride in her pink corset, veil, and mermaid sheer skirt. If anyone understood the assignment, it was definitely Nicki going along with the pink-themed carpet.
Nicki also won her first VMA in the Best Hip-hop category for “Super Freaky Girl.”
The City Girl Who Came to Slay: JT
From the hip-hop duo City Girls, rapper JT came and delivered on the pink carpet. JT wore a look from Mirror Palais’ S/S’24, fresh off the runway. Let’s just say that this dress was made for her!
The styling here is perfection—the silver cross necklace with the platform heels with many straps was everything. Her makeup and accessories gave this look an edge that matches JT’s aesthetic perfectly. It’s so creative to see this glam dress being styled in this edgy way.
The Girl Who Spilled Her Guts So Sparkly: Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo, the pop star that every teenage girl in their 20s loves, graced the pink carpet in a custom piece made by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. This sparkly silver necklace was made out of 150,00 Swarovski crystals and styled with her silver ‘GUTS’ rings, the name of her new sophomore album.
Olivia was nominated for categories such as Best Pop Video and Song of the Summer for her hit single “Vampire.” She also performed at the VMAs by having this faux stage malfunction when she transitioned from “Vampire” to “Get Him Back!”
We also can’t skip over her performance outfit, in which she wore a custom Sandy Liang set in a bright red color. She paired this set with her classic black Converse and some leg warmers—so ballet-core of her!
The Golden Winner of the Night: Shakira, Shakira
The mother of all mothers, Shakira, wore this incredible gold Versace gown. The side cutouts at her waist and the backless cutouts were pure perfection. Her effortless curls made this her accessory for the night, and she killed it.
Shakira was also honored with this year’s Video Vanguard Award. She also took the stage for the first time in over ten years. Let’s just say her performance was nothing but hit after hit. One of her outfits was this sparkly fringe skirt that did her so much justice, and you can definitely say her hips don’t lie!
The Glam Barbie That All The Girlies Love: Sabrina Carpenter
Just one look at Sabrina Carpenter, and all you think of is “She’s Barbie.” This custom Vera Wang dress was the most elegant thing on the pink carpet. The sparkly strapless bustier with the sheer low-cowl neckline dress was one of the best looks we’ve seen on Sabrina, which is hard considering she slays every outfit.
Sabrina also gave a performance at the VMAs pre-show in which she did a mashup of “Feather” and “Nonsense.” She also had another sparkly, silver moment with a bustier and fringed skirt. She, of course, had her infamous platform boots in white that everyone is obsessed with.
The #1 Hottie: Megan Thee Stallion
This hot girl does what she always does: she serves and slays. Megan Thee Stallion pulled up to the VMA carpet in this gorgeous bustier dress by Brandon Blackwood. Megan never disappoints. She always gives the hotties the best looks.
This sheer bustier dress is literally everything. From the diamond chocker to the matching bracelet and ring, it was glam, sexy, and elegant.
Megan also performed at the VMAs stage with Cardi B, where they performed their new song “Bongos.” Also, her outfit performance in that royal blue color made her look like the queen that she is.
The Latina Princess: Karol G
It seems like the biggest trend on this pink carpet was sheer looks, but this Latina Princess took it to the next level by wearing a light pink lace dress with a matching jacket. Karol G was in Ashi Studio, making everyone turn their heads.
It’s the pink dress, jacket, and pink hair that do it. It’s giving what it needs to give. It was also Karol’s first VMAs, in which she performed her song, “Oki Doki.” If you see a new trend of wearing pink arm warmers, then it’s all thanks to her because of how she turned this ballet-core trend into a sexy version.
The Pop Icon Who Swept The Night: Taylor Swift
To end off the best pink carpet looks, we have to mention the winner that swept the VMAs: Taylor Swift. Taylor wore none other than Versace in this black asymmetrical dress with gold button detailing.
It was definitely the ‘Reputation Era,’ and fans went crazy when they noticed the snake ring she had on. This was such an elegant look and contrasted with the pink carpet perfectly!
Taylor won nine awards at the VMAS, and some of the categories included Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and many more!
A special moment of the show was when the infamous boy band *NSYNC reunited to present Taylor with the Best Pop Award. It was a nostalgic moment for her. It was even more special when one of the members gifted her beaded charm bracelets.
This 2023 VMAs was not only a successful night in music, but the outfits were some of the top highlight moments of the show. Many of these celebrities really took it this year and showed that they are forced to be reckoned with by just one glance at their outfit.
