You Can’t Replicate Everyone’s Style

Fashionable young man wearing denim stands confidently against modern gate.

Have you ever thought about a hairstyle, brand, clothing piece, or accessory and immediately pictured a specific person? Someone who has fully committed to a certain look? That’s what defines personal style. We all have one, whether we realize it or not. The real question is how you develop your own. Here are a few tips and tricks I used to help shape my look.

Don’t get me wrong, I love trends as much as the next person. The problem comes when everyone starts dressing the same because of trends. When you follow trends without adding your own perspective, your individuality gets lost. With social media, trends are easy to spot. So, people can immediately tell where your inspiration came from. Your ideas should come from you. The internet also tends to label people based on trends. Because of that, I advise staying mindful of them so your authentic style can show.

Adapt To Fit You

The other not so great thing about trends is the specific look. Trends make you think you have to have a certain style of shirts or pants. But, you may not feel comfortable wearing that certain style. If you are going to follow a trend, I recommend tailoring it to fit you. For example, I was following a style that included wearing multiple bracelets on both arms. I realized the bracelets were uncomfortable and made my arms itch. To fix that, I just started wearing three or four bracelets on one arm. That way, I was still adhering to the style while also making it my own!

should I make a series on incorporating micro-trends into your long-term style? 👀🎀 it never makes sense to me when someone says “I can’t wear that anymore, it’s out of style” because your style is YOURS! be sustainable and fashionable, keeping wearing the trends you love! 🫶 #fashiontiktok #outfit #styleinspo #pinterest #outfits #alt #softgirl #bows #goth #coquette #egirl

Think About Your Environment

I know it’s easy to see a style online and immediately buy the things for it. It’s important to consider what is available around you. You might not have all the resources at hand to achieve the certain style. Many styles on the internet are based off of someone’s environment. One of the biggest factors is where someone lives. For a while, I was obsessed with puffy jackets. But, I live somewhere it doesn’t get cold enough to wear them. So, it was a style choice I had to let go.

Overall, your style should reflect you and not someone else. Everyone is special in their own way. It’s important to show that. Following someone else’s style does not show that. So, figure out how to be comfortable in your own skin!
