Tips For Conquering the School Year: College Edition

Ah, fall. The leaves are changing. Pumpkin spice is returning. Everyone is making the transition to a new season. More specifically, a new school semester. Whether you are a freshman or senior, you will go through the struggle of learning how to navigate college. As an upcoming college senior myself, here is the best advice I have for those starting school in the fall.

Have a Routine

Realistic morning routine, trying to find a routine before classes start🫶. #college #student #dormlife

Your routine can be anything. It can be a night, morning, workout, whatever works for you. It can be tailored to your schedule. College can be so stressful to the point you lose a part of yourself. Having a routine helps you take your mind off your classes. A routine of mine lately has been to drink a cup of tea and read for at least 10 minutes.

A Staple Hairstyle

This is for my curly and coily hair people out there! Have a hairstyle you know you can do in time. If you’re like me and like to experiment with your hair, sometimes it can be frustrating to try something new and did not work out. Next thing you know, it’s the next morning and your hair isn’t done. So, pick a few hairstyles that you can whip out just before class. For me, that would be a wash and go or putting my hair in a head wrap.

Understand Your College

People tend to overthink college. This can be fixed by reviewing your college website. As simple as it sounds, many questions you have will be answered on the website or during the first week of school. Sometimes you have to be there for a week or two to settle in. For example, you might stress about how much food to bring while moving before discovering a nearby store that has everything you need.

Social Media as a Reference, Not a Guide

Social media gets an influx of dorm hauls during this time of year. And I watch every single video. However, don’t compare your college experience or dorm decoration to people online. Everyone has a different preference and journey in life. Also, everyone online is showing the best versions of themselves. They aren’t showing the day they skipped class or how they burned chicken and set off the fire alarm.

A Reminder

You will be okay. Everyone’s college experience will be different. The best you can do is learn what works best for you. N Crowd, what are you looking forward to this school semester?
