In a world where binge-watching and endless scrolling often fill our free time, it’s easy to feel constantly plugged in and mentally drained. A digital detox allows you to step back and reconnect with life and yourself.
Whether it’s getting creative with arts and crafts, losing yourself in a good book, moving your body, or trying something new in the kitchen, these offline habits help replace mindless scrolling with more intentional living during a digital detox. More living and less scrolling starts with small choices that make your time feel more balanced, productive, and fulfilling.
Arts & Crafts
Arts and crafts are a great digital detox activity to relieve stress and take your mind off the business of life. Whether it’s sewing or paint-by-numbers, tons of projects out there will scratch your brain in that perfect spot!
@merideth.rutledge Such a fun & cheap hobby!! 🌼#diamondpainting #hobbylobby #hobby #diamondart #diamondartclub

One of my personal favorite crafts are diamond paintings. There are tons of templates with different sized gems to create a sparkly picture for decor. Diamond painting is similar to paint-by-number, but instead of paint, it uses small, colored resin “diamonds” that correspond to numbered sections on a design, allowing you to place each gem in the correct spot to complete the picture.
Reading & Journaling
Reading and journaling—especially journaling—are great ways to distract your mind without using the distractions of the internet. Reading expands your vocabulary and allows your brain to go on adventures while visually imagining the world of what you’re reading.
@yuna.batmunkh i’ve been journaling for 10+ years & it’s the best thing i’ve done for myself🧘🏻♀️ #journaling #journaling101 #journalingideas #journal #benefitsofjournaling #journalwithme #journalideas #selfgrowth #selfhelp #organization #bulletjournal #creativity #hobbies #mindfulness

Journaling, whether it’s writing down compressed emotions or simply rambling about your day can be a healthy way to process thoughts, reflect on experiences, and relieve stress. These two simple activities can take your mind away from social media from hours. Even when I journal, what I expect to be a short entry turns into a 30 to one hour writing sesh. Journaling can find thoughts and feelings that you might’ve forgotten about.It’s also really rewarding to look back on old entries and see how much you’ve grown.
Exercising & Stretching
Exercising and stretching help you feel good and look good. You can follow YouTube workouts or exercises that you already know of! The best part about exercising and stretching is that you don’t need to go to the gym to do it. You can do it from the comfort of your own home! Something as simple as walking is a great way to get some fresh air. It also helps release endorphins, our body’s natural mood booster.
@wellwithkiersten Here is why you should be prioritizing walking in your workout routine! I’ve been seeing a lot of content around walking but we have to remember just how amazing walking is for our overall health, not just how we look! #walkingforhealth #hotgirlwalk #10ksteps #walking

For stretching, all you need is yourself! While certain stretches hit harder with equipment or a resistance band, a majority of stretches can be done without any additional tools. Yoga is also a form of stretching which even helps to release stress and calm down your mind.
Deep Cleaning
Nothing feels better than having a clean space. Cleaning can be dreadful and intimidating at times. But it can also become an oddly peaceful digital detox once you get into the flow of it. With a podcast or music playing in the background, cleaning keeps you occupied while making your space feel fresh and spotless. By the end, you feel productive and get to relax in an environment that feels much more comfortable. A clean space equals a clean mind.

Experimenting in the Kitchen
If you have random leftover ingredients sitting in your kitchen, they could contribute to a brand-new recipe. Trying out new meals can help build creativity and help with food waste while keeping you productive. Cooking can be especially relaxing once you get into the rhythm of chopping and putting everything together. Making your own meals also helps save money and gives you the satisfaction of creating something from scratch.

If cooking isn’t your forte or simply doesn’t appeal to you, baking is another great activity to try instead. Cooking allows for a bit more freedom and creativity, while baking requires you to carefully follow measurements and steps. There’s something therapeutic about decorating treats and watching the final product come together. At the end, you not only have a sweet treat to enjoy. You also have something you can share with friends and family.
Shower Makeup/Hair
As a teenager, I used to love doing “shower makeup” and “shower hair.” What is this concept, you may ask? It’s basically experimenting with new makeup looks or hairstyles right before you shower. People do this because even if the look turns out terrible, it doesn’t really matter since it’ll all be washed off anyway. It takes away the pressure of trying to make everything perfect and gives you the freedom to be creative and try styles you normally wouldn’t. It’s a fun way to pass the time, express yourself, and perfect new looks without worrying about the outcome. It can even be a goofy look for fun!

A digital detox doesn’t mean giving up your phone or technology completely. It simply means making more time for things that help you feel relaxed and present in your everyday life. So, put the screens down once in a while and enjoy living in the moment, N Crowd!
