Spring Into Cleaning

The most dreadful part of spring cleaning isn’t the cleaning itself, but getting started. Looking at the mess and everything we have to go through can be more intimidating than the cleaning, but it is very rewarding once it’s done. The good news is that cleaning doesn’t have to be all boring. Shuffle your favorite playlist or turn on your favorite show to keep you moving.

Bidding Farewell to Old Clothes

Your clothes can look a bit daunting to organize, especially if you’ve grown an emotional attachment to certain pieces. I’m in the same boat—I feel as clothes hold memories, which makes it rather difficult for myself to donate that pair of jeans or cute top that’s now two sizes too small.

As Marie Kondo says, keep items that spark joy. If you’re holding a sweater that hasn’t been touched for months and doesn’t ignite some sort of positive feeling within, it’s probably best that that item finds its way to a Goodwill or another donation store.

Once pick the pieces that spark joy, try organizing them by season and type of clothing. Since we’re slowly entering the spring season, consider purchasing clothing bins to store away any winter pieces you know you won’t need for the upcoming months. Doing so will create more space, even if it’s for new pieces. These bins even come in different colors, so you won’t be stuck with bland colors.

If you want to go the extra mile, which I’d recommend to do as it will save you stress in the future, label each storage bin so you know exactly what’s in each. This will save you from spending hours trying to figure out which bin holds what seasonal attire.

Organizing Your Desk/Vanity

Now that your bedroom has been organized from clothes, take a look at your desk and vanity. Is it cluttered? If it is, don’t feel embarrassed—mine is too! It can become rather challenging to keep your smaller items organized, especially when you’re getting ready in a rush or completing a last minute task on your desk before heading out.

Luckily, there are many gadgets to keep your things organized. These drawer organizers help keep your things together, whether you’re trying to organize your makeup or pens and pencils.

You can also get organizers for the top of your desk or vanity. Desk organizers can be used for makeup, work utilities, or both.

A Kitchen Makeover

Spices

Depending on how much you utilize your kitchen, it may be due for a little makeover. It’s easy for kitchens to quickly become cluttered when purchasing new seasonings for a recipe you experimented with. It’s even easier to impulsively buy that new gadget whose ad quickly sold you.

There are so many organizers to keep your kitchen tools and gadgets organized and easily accessible. Whether you keep your spices in a cabinet, drawer, or on your countertops, there are plenty of organizers to match where you store them.

Keep cabinet spices in a spice rack, drawer spices in a spice drawer organizer, and counter spices on a lazy susan. Doing so will save you those extra minutes when you’re frantically searching for the seasonings your recipe calls for.

Fridges

The fridge is arguably one of your most used appliances, which means it’s especially crucial to ensure it’s properly organized. Not only will this save you from constantly moving items around to find what you’re looking for, but help you keep an eye on things that need to be perishable.

Using small storage containers will keep your fridge organized by category. Whether it’s with drinks, fruits and veggies, or meats, keeping these items in a place where they’re easy to see will help keep everything organized.

Appliances

If you find yourself throwing your appliances on the floor while searching for the one you need, it might be time to get an organizer for them too. Although it may take up some of your kitchen space, storage shelves can act as a great separator to keep your appliances neat and together. Plus, you can add your own personal touch with plants and pictures.

Digital Cleanse

While it is important to make sure our physical environment is tidy, it’s also crucial to keep our digital spaces clean as well. Now is the perfect time to go through your camera roll and find the apps you haven’t touched since they downloaded. Deleting text messages can help clear up space as well. Believe it or not, the smallest things on your devices, like your unforgotten notes in the notes app, can take up the most storage.

As the flowers bloom and your allergies inevitably return, it’s the perfect time to get a head start on spring cleaning. Although it may seem like a hassle, a few, simple changes can make your daily routine run much more smoothly. After all, the only showers you want in April should come from the sky, not your eyes.
