At Just N Life, we believe change begins with conversation, community, and voices willing to make an impact. JNL writer Kayla Blasingame recently joined Mayor Brandon Johnsonduring National Louis University’s Fireside Chat, leading to a greater discussion about his vision for the future of the City and the next generation of people who will make a difference in the City.

The Fireside Chat: Future Of Chicago
The Fireside Chat helped the students talk about what life is like in Chicago and what they want it to be in the future. The conversation focused on housing, opportunity, community development, and the everyday life of youth in the city. Blasingame introduced the audience to the discussion, urging students to reflect not only on what Chicago looks like for them today, but also about the future of the city they hope to create.

The Future of Chicago’s Youth
The conversation also explored what future leadership in Chicago could look like as students reflected on the possibility of a future 58th mayor and the type of city they hope future generations will inherit. Future leaders wanted a city that’s more open, creative, interconnected and supportive of young people on their academic, career and life journeys. “The future of Chicago depends on youth like me,” Blasingame said during the conversation while recognizing the relevance youth voices can have on the city’s future for decades to come.

The Future Voices Of Chicago
Young voices with big vision are making their way into the future of Chicago, from student leaders to creatives, storytellers to innovators. Leadership starts in many places, including classrooms, community events, creative industries and the vision of students striving to do more than themselves for a better community, but also in city offices, public spaces, and the everyday actions of people working to make a difference.
