Sony released the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on March 17, and people are already buzzing with their theories. With the movie coming out in July, fans still have time to catch up on the previous movies. So, let’s do a quick recap as to what we know so far from the trailer.

An Overview

When the trailer starts, we see Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, reminiscing about his friends, MJ and Ned, played by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. We know that Dr. Strange’s spell from the previous movie of making everyone forget Peter Parker works because he’s writing a letter to both of them.

We see a more serious and sad version of Peter Parker because of his isolation. We also see his powers change with him fainting, waking up in a web-based cocoon, and his eyes turning black. The narration describes that spiders go through three life cycles. In the end, they experience a rebirth.

As a trailer ends, the audience gets a call back to the iconic nickname for Spider-Man. Peter Parker goes to what appears to be MJ’s place and gives her flowers, and she calls him a “friendly neighbor.”

Returning Characters

Zendaya’s MJ and Batalon’s Ned Leeds are shown in the trailer several times despite not remembering Peter. The trailer does show MJ and Ned as friends who speak to each other often. Fans are hoping they’ll make a larger appearance in the movie.

The most prevalent return in the trailer is Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner. The last time the audience saw Dr. Banner was in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.The trailer has no mention of Smart Hulk, but fans are hoping he makes an appearance.

Following his setup in the first Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Mando appears to return as Scorpion. His return, along with Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, sets up some epic fight scenes. This will be The Punisher moving from the Marvel universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Punisher is available on Disney+ to learn more about the character.

Fan Responses and Theories

The official trailer has already reached millions of views within the first few days of it dropping. Fans are already coming up with theories about what will happen to the characters and the storyline. The most popular one online is Peter Parker becoming Man-Spider, a version of Peter caused by a mutation in his DNA.

While nothing can be confirmed until the movie comes out on July 31, fans are excited to see what role Spider-Man will play in the future, and they are hoping some of their theories make it into the film.
