Okay, time to dive into all the different reactions from fans after they watched the latest episode of The Last of Us. For the fans who played the original video game and are familiar with the story line, they had a long time to prepare for the unfortunate, but inevitable moment where Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, dies a brutal death. Even though they knew this day would come, that wasn’t enough to soften the blow it seems…
Fans felt just as helpless as Ellie, a second main character played by Bella Ramsey, watching the death play out. There were some mixed reviews about the death scene though, and some fans were upset about the plot changes made for the show. Originally in the video game, Joel dies at the hands of Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, as she swings a golf club against his skull.
For the show, writers decided to kill off Joel by having Abby stab him in the neck with the broken golf club. As far as Ellie watching the whole thing go down without being able to intervene, the show stayed true to that aspect.
The whole reason Abby is set on murdering Joel is because of his own murdering spree he committed five years prior. One of the victims? Abby’s father. Touché Abby, Touché…
