Golden Globe Awards word mark with white letters and gold background

The new year not only marks the beginning of resolutions, but the long-awaited Hollywood awards season. Launching this season is the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, honoring both film and television talent. This year’s nominations were released on Monday, and boy, do we have some stellar contenders and surprises.

Selena Gomez‘s return to feature-length films is certainly going well for her, as her newest endeavor, Emilia Perez, is among the top films dominating this year’s nominations list. The French musical-crime film follows Gomez as her character, an underappreciated lawyer, helps a cartel boss transition into a quiet life as a woman. With 10 nominations, the Netflix film marks the Golden Globes’ most nominated film in the musical/comedy category. It will compete against the box-office hit and beloved Wicked film, nominated for three other categories.

Joining Emilia Perez‘ promising nominations are the drama films Conclave and The BrutalistConclave has six nominations and follows the ominous process of replacing the Pope, should he die. The Brutalist is a heavy-hitting historical drama starring the brooding Adrien Brody as his character chases the American Dream after surviving the holocaust. It received seven nominations. Both films are head-to-head for the best drama film, screenplay, acting and directing awards.

Also notable is Gen-Z’s favorite cutie, Timothee Chalamet, as one of the nominees for best actor in a drama film for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete UnknownThe film also joins ConclaveThe Brutalist and Dune: Part Two, also starring Chalamet, for best drama.

Making history is The Substancethe satirical body horror film raved by both Rotten Tomatoes and our N’Crew. The horror film has five nominations, which is uncommon for horror films. It follows Demi Moore as a faded celebrity facing the consequences of pursuing the fountain of youth.

On the TV side of the Golden Globes, The Bear reigns again, much like it did earlier this year. Lead actors Jeremy Allen-White and Ayo Edebiri are once again nominated for best actor/actress in a comedy series. Edebiri will try to defend her title against other nominees like Quinta Brunson of Abbot Elementary.

Baby Reindeer, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Griselda also have actor/actress nominations from Jessica GunningJavier Bardem, Cooper Koch and Sofia Vergara
