It’s been nearly 20 years since we saw the iconic best friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie in the hit reality show The Simple Life. The show, in which the popular besties both made their TV debut, followed the duo on their humbling (and humorous) experience of leaving their luxurious lifestyles behind to temporarily live the life of a hardworking, average American. This included working at fast-food restaurants, farms, and even a taxidermy office. The Simple Life first aired on December 2003, with its last episode airing on August 2007.
The heiress and socialite duo return to reality TV on Peacock
On May 13, 2024, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie announced the show’s comeback on their official IG accounts.
During Hilton’s and Richie’s Hiatus from TV
Paris Hilton, 43, has been married to Carter Reum, 43, since November 2021. The happily married couple also share two children – Phoenix and London.
Paris Hilton was born into a life of luxury and wealth: she is the heiress of the Hilton Hotels through her lineage that dates back to her great-grandfather, Conrad Hilton. Hilton’s persona is recognized as a stereotypical spoiled, ditzy blonde and as the “party girl of the early 2000s.” Women and young girls wanted to be her and she easily stole the hearts of suitors. In her rise into the spotlight, Paris would notably speak in a high-pitched voice, using her catchphrase, “that’s hot!” Paris has since rebranded, and now no longer uses her recognized voice in recent reviews.
In 2020, Provo Canyon School, a youth treatment facility located in Utah whose mission was to guide and aid troubled teens, came under public scrutiny after Hilton’s public claims involving the mental and physical trauma she endured at the hands of Provo Canyon School faculty and staff. In her documentary This Is Paris, Hilton publicly detailed the traumatic experience she endured during her attendance at Provo Canyon School.
Hilton has since become an advocate of troubled youth who reside at treatment facilities, much like Provo Canyon School. In fact, a conference was held for the notion of passing a bill of rights that would protect children who undergo treatment facilities on October 20, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol. At the forefront of this act was none other than Paris Hilton.
Nicole Richie is the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie and Brenda Harvey. From the beginning of her parents’ bitter divorce, Nicole led a life of leisure and pamperedness. Richie, much like her co-star Hilton, also possessed a scatterbrained, diva persona. Since the final episode of The Simple of Life, Nicole Richie is now a philanthropist and environmentalist. This includes being a UNICEF member, a member of the Environmental Media Association, and donating to countless organizations.
