Taking Game Day Fit Inspiration From Football WAGs

Football season is back, which means, most importantly, WAG season is back!

WAGs, the “wives and girlfriends” of players, are known for their creative, classy, and trendy game day fits. These women attend football games Sunday after Sunday after Sunday, all season long. They know how to dress up the same outfit or jersey over and over again, which is their way of supporting their significant other off the field. So, if you find yourself at a football game, tailgate, or watch party this football season and are looking for some inspiration, look no further! We’ve got you covered with inspiration from the experts themselves, NFL WAGs.

Kristin Juszczyk

Kristin Juszczyk started designing her own NFL gear, specifically for the San Francisco 49ers. She spent years attending her husband, Kyle Juszczyk’s, 49ers games and was fed up with the same rotation of clothing and a lack of variety. So, she taught herself to sew, design, and create one-of-a-kind pieces from jerseys, sweatshirts, and t-shirts.

She then started designing for other friends, like fellow Niners WAG Claire Kittle, and, eventually, the most well-known WAGs, including Simone Biles and Taylor Swift, wore her creations.

Next, she launched Off Season, her fashion brand, and secured an official partnership with the NFL. While some of the merch is similar to pieces she’s made in the past, including puffers and corsets, she also sells streetwear t-shirts and sweatpants.

However, Off Season sells out quickly, doesn’t sell merch for every team yet, and can run pretty high price points. So, if you’re interested in owning Off Season apparel, keep a steady eye on their website. At the time of writing this, she only sells merch for the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Green Bay Packers. However, if you’re a basketball fan, she also has merch for some WNBA teams.

Or, if you like the vibe of what she does, take a page out of Juszczyk’s book and start designing your own pieces. She’s posted some tutorials to her TikTok, and you can get some inspiration for your own pieces from her:

Aeropostale’s NFL Collection

If you’re not so crafty, you’re looking for a lower price point, or you don’t want merch for a specific player, Aeropostale recently launched its own NFL-affiliated collection. Their collection has a similar vibe to Off Season with a much lower price point. There are t-shirts, sweats, shorts, sweatshirts, and jackets. Some of the pieces also have more of a vintage feel to them, giving you a different vibe to choose from. Plus, unlike Off Season, which is a new, much smaller business, Aeropostale does have apparel for every team.

If you need another place for new or different merch, look for local artists on X, Instagram, or Etsy. They might have a t-shirt no one else is making!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle?

While you could buy new apparel and pieces, there’s a possibility that you have old merch lying around. Maybe you have a well-loved XL sweatshirt from an older relative, a jersey that fits you just right, or a t-shirt that’s been in your life since childhood. Even if you don’t, you can always turn to your handy-dandy local thrift store to find old Jerseys or sweatshirts.

Any one of these could become a crop top, but there’s one problem: you’ve never really known how to style it. Luckily, social media provides a lot of great inspiration for any and every DIY clothing!

Here are two options to wear a giant jersey:

You could take some inspo from Ciara:

However, your game day fit doesn’t need to be anything fancy. Plus, while you might want to strut your stuff sometimes, you might just want to be comfy for other games.

Take these examples:

Or, here’s a series of Eagles WAGs dressed for simplicity, comfort, and in some cases, giggles.

Or emulate the team’s mascot instead of the team’s WAGs (although in this case, you could do both) and dress up with an ode to the mascot, like these Eagle onesies. Credit: Sophia Calcaterra

So, whether you’re watching football for Taylor Swift, you’ve been a die-hard fan since childhood, you like an excuse to tailgate, you’re going to a Super Bowl party, or you just want some style refreshments, the WAGs of the NFL are experts who can give you inspiration for your next football-themed outing!
