On Oct. 30, former Olympic snowboarder Shaun White and “Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev announced their engagement to the world. In honor of their engagement, let’s take a trip down memory lane to look back at the memories they’ve made together over the last five years and counting.
Late 2019: Dobrev and White meet in Florida
The couple laid eyes on each other during a Florida workshop held by motivational speaker Tony Robbins in late 2019. Following the event, White and Dobrev chose to go on a date at a restaurant close by.
February 2020: Dobrev and White spend time together on a safari
While it may not have been immediately apparent, fans noticed Dobrev and White’s separate Instagram posts showed both of them on the same South African safari for a week. White later admitted in an interview with Us Weekly that Dobrev invited him on set while she was filming Redeeming Love.
May 2020: Dobrev and White go public with their relationship on Instagram
Dobrev finally confirmed the dating rumors after months of speculation with an Instagram post of her giving White a haircut during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“Adding to resume: hairdresser,” the caption read.
February 2021: Their first Valentine’s Day as a couple
Dobrev posted a photo to Instagram that showed her licking White’s forehead to commemorate their first official Valentine’s Day together.
“my favorite snow cone flavor is White,” she captioned the post. “happy we got ‘stuck together’ last year and stuck it out 😉 happy valentine’s day to my quarantini in crime…”
June 2021: White discusses how they spent their first anniversary
Due to the pandemic, the couple struggled to find somewhere to celebrate their first anniversary. But it was thanks to White that they were able to secure a place.
“I wanted to recreate our first date, but everything was closed,” he said to Us Weekly. “I managed to sweet-talk the owner of the place to open up for us. It was actually pretty fun to have a place all to ourselves.”
May 2022: They attend their first red carpet together
The pair walked the red carpet in style for the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London.
January 2024: White takes Dobrev on a surprise trip to Disneyland for her 35th birthday
Dobrev posted an Instagram carousel with photos of her and White along with her friends from their Disneyland vacation.
She revealed that White planned the entire getaway when she ended the caption with, “Huge thank you to @shaunwhite for orchestrating the whole thing! You sneaky lil devil.”
October 2024: White announces his engagement to Dobrev
White opted for an elaborate surprise proposal at The Golden Swan restaurant in New York City. Vogue revealed that White faked an invitation for Dobrev to dine with the magazine’s editor-in-chief herself, Anna Wintour.
“I went into shock,” Dobrev told Vogue on the moment she entered the restaurant and found Shaun under an arch of white roses along with a photographer. “I just froze and stared at him.”
She went on to exclaim a round of “Nos!” in excited disbelief.
November 2024: Their first red carpet as an engaged couple
The pair attended their first red carpet as an engaged couple at the Earthshot Prize Awards in Cape Town, South Africa on Nov. 6.
