His passion for helping people recover from drug and substance abuse would lead him to become a celebrity spokesperson for the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. Perry used his personal experience and stardom in support of funding drug courts, which are specialized federal programs that aim to help individuals recover from substance abuse and reduce their likelihood of criminal activity.

Matthew Perry was the recipient of a Champion of Recovery award in May 2013, which was awarded by The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. The award was a recognition of his opening and launching, Perry House, a rehabilitation center in his former mansion in Malibu.
