If there’s one event comic, film, and TV series fanatics look forward to every year, it’s San Diego’s Comic-Con. This year’s Comic-Con brought a bagful of surprises and announcements for its loyal fans. With Q+A interview panels, theatrical trailer releases, and formal introductions, here are the most exciting announcements from San Diego’s 2024 Comic-Con.

Fantastic Four Reboot
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (also known as the MCU), has had a plethora of successful box office hits, earning them $6 billion in revenue. This year’s Comic-Con included several announcements for projects in the works by Marvel Studios, including updates on the reboot of the 2005 Fantastic Four movie. But who will play the infamous F4? Elastic scientist and leader of the group Mr. Fantastic will be played by Pedro Pascal. The invisible and force field-wielding leading lady Sue Storm is played by Vanessa Kirby. ‘The Human Torch’ and Sue Storm’s sibling, Johnny Storm, is played by Joseph Quinn. Lastly, the hothead whose body is made of a material that’s hard as rock, ‘The Thing’ will be played by rising The Bear star, Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The last time we saw these familiar characters was its original 2005 live-action cast that included a younger Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Ion Gruffudd, and Michael Chiklis. Matt Shakman will be directing the new Fantastic 4 reboot, and it is set to be released on July 25, 2025.

Meet Your ‘Doctor Doom’… Robert Downey Jr. Returns to the MCU!
Audiences made an uproar after Marvel Studios announced who they chose as their infamous supervillan, Victor Von Doom, better known as Doctor Doom. Notably, Doctor Doom originally starred in the Fantastic Four comics and has remained an unspeakable force in the MCU universe. Fans have long awaited to see the popular supervillain make his appearance in live-actions, and for years, many have wondered who would play the notorious tyrant. Shockingly, Robert Downey Jr. has taken on the role and made his debut during the Marvel Studios live panel at Comic-Con. Robert Downey Jr. was officially cast as Iron Man in 2008, and starred in all consecutive Avengers movies. RDJ moving from playing the super charming and likable hero Tony Stark/ Iron Man, to the merciless outlaw Dr. Doom has shocked audiences globally. RDJ’s Doctor Doom will make his debut for the next Avengers film projects. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be released in 2026 and 2027.

These missions include capturing and seizing other wanted outlaws by the group made of anti-heroes, much like DC Studios Suicide Squad. The cast of Thunderbolts will include Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, and Harrison Ford.
