Peacock has announced a spin-off series of The Office to start production soon, leaving fans wondering when they can expect to see the series, how long will it be and, most importantly, who will be in it.

Though fans have speculated whether this will be a sequel, prequel or reboot of the original series, Peacock has confirmed it will actually be none of these. Instead, the series will exist in the same universe as the US adaptation of The Office but follow a brand-new storyline. Although fans will be disappointed to learn they are not returning to Scranton or the iconic Dunder Mifflin, there are some promising aspects of this upcoming show that are sure to hook loyal fans of the original series.
Although it is unknown whether the Office’s original stars will be cameoing in the new spinoff, we do know that this show will feature a whole new host of characters. The new series will follow a newspaper company, with Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore confirmed to star, trying to bring its dying business back to life with volunteer reporters.

Despite the confirmed casting, fans still are dying to know whether any of the original stars will be making a reprise to their famous roles. The production itself hasn’t said whether any of the original cast will be appearing, but some Office veterans have already spoken about the new show and whether they are willing to get involved.
Steve Carell, otherwise known as Michael Scott, has adamantly said that he will not be appearing in the new series but will be watching, to fans’ disappointment. It is unknown whether Carell’s former co-stars will make a cameo, but fans can certainly hope. John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert, and Rainn Wilson, who played the iconic Dwight Schrute, have both played at potentially making appearances in the new series if asked.

Rumors have been circulating since January of the potential new series, which has finally been picked up by Peacock. The show will follow the same mockumentary-style as the original series, with creator Greg Daniels returning with new partner Michael Koman, who co-created the hit show Nathan for You.
Like any adaptation, the announcement has already received mixed reviews online, with some fans worried the spin-off won’t be able to live up to the original series.
Got a feeling the new spinoff for "The Office" is damned before it takes off, since people will constantly judge it against the original.

Similar to how the original was judged by the UK version.
I hope the spirit, humor, character development is all there. pic.twitter.com/WGUARAPpe5
The Office has an overwhelming fan base, and this new series has a lot of work to do to shine in the Office’s massive shadow. The original series was a winner of several Emmys, and essentially launched the careers of Steve Carell, John Krasinski and Mindy Kaling. At the very least, fans can look forward to a new series reminiscent of the beloved original series.
