Rap superstar Megan Thee Stallion has finally announced the name and release date of her forthcoming studio album, MEGAN, dropping on June 28.
Announced at the Atlanta stop of her Hot Girl Summer 2024 tour, MEGAN is the follow-up to 2022’s Traumazine. MEGAN’s pre-release singles have been some of Megan Thee Stallions biggest career successes thus far. Debut single “COBRA” showcased Megan wrestling with self-doubt and depression over a rock-inspired instrumental, doubled down on in the song’s remix featuring rising heavy metal stars Spiritbox.
The second single, “HISS,” was an incendiary lyrical unloading of all of Megan’s frustrations towards peers in hip-hop and more. While the lines aimed at Nicki Minaj got the most attention, the song really was a showcase for Megan’s raw rapping abilities.
Most recently, Megan released “BOA,” an upbeat pop-rap track, very much in line with what fans have come to love Meg for. With these tracks showcasing a lot of variety for Megan both lyrically and musically, it still remains up in the air what MEGAN will sound like as a full album.
The album cover features Megan emerging from a cocoon hanging on a tree, with a massive letter M emblazoned on the front. This seems to be a nod towards the themes of rebirth seen in the pre-exisiting visuals and lyrics for MEGAN. Notably, however, snakes are absent from the album cover, which left some fans confused considering the snake-themed names of the record’s singles.
Along with the album release, Megan Thee Stallion is on tour with GloRilla for the Hot Girl Summer 2024 tour. Despite being her first-ever headline tour, Megan has managed to pack arenas and generate international hype. The tour is scheduled to run until it finishes with a performance at the O2 in London, England on July 17 and a festival show in Washington DC on July 27.
