Rapper Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested and hospitalized early morning Thursday, August 21st. The event has called Hill’s long-term mental health and physical well-being into question on a public stage.

LAPD arrested him for three counts of battery, injuring an officer, and one for resisting arrest. He was hospitalized for a potential drug overdose. He pleaded not guilty to all four felony charges and was released on a $75,000 bail after spending the weekend in jail.
Hill took to Instagram to address his eventful weekend. He said that the ordeal had been terrifying but, “your girl is gonna be alright.” His Instagram account has been mostly scrubbed of old videos now, including posts about his facial paralysis in April.
@pinknews Lil Nas X has finally broken his silence after being arrested and charged with four felonies in Los Angeles over the weekend. Last week, the two-time Grammy award-winning artist was filmed by passer-bys allegedly walking along Ventura Boulevard in nothing but white underwear and white cowboy boots. The 26-year-old appeared to be acting erratically, questioning those who were filming him on whether they would “come to the party”. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) were called and the rapped was placed under arrest on suspicion of battery after allegedly “charging” at officers. He was taken to hospital for treatment for a possible overdose. On 25 August, the “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” singer was charged with four felonies, including three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer. In an Instagram story on Tuesday 26 August, the rapper said: ‘That was a terrifying four days but your girl is going to be alright’. #lilnasx #rappers #montero #policeofficer #arrested #lgbtqia

Mental Health Matters
Social media users have sparked discourse about the situation and what it means about Hill’s mental health, as well as discussion about community reaction and potential causes of his episode. Since his 2019 hit single “Old Town Road” had a record-breaking 19-week stint on the Billboard Hot 100, there has been undeniable pressure to return to his success.
He came out as gay that same year, and quickly became an important public figure for the community. His debut album Montero came out in 2021. Music videos included serious religious imagery, such as images of Hill falling from heaven and giving the devil a lap dance. His mockery of Christianity, combined with his sexuality, gave him a strong community of haters as well as of fans.
Lil Nas X is a prime example how mental health in the black community goes unchecked and not taken seriously especially for the black LGBT community you gutter rat. Yall go so hard against the LGBT community but ignore the local pedophile/rapist in your family/neighborhood. NEXT. https://t.co/61D1C3acp3 pic.twitter.com/6SfVhIIQzG

The pressure that can lead to an episode such as this also seems to come from his family. Because Hill’s father, Robert Stafford, is also a public musician in the gospel community, we know more intimate details about how Hill is a breadwinner for his family. Stafford also weighed in when Hill’s mother was filmed and posted begging on the streets of Atlanta. Hill has tried to help his mother recover from her lifelong struggle with addiction, but it hasn’t worked out.

Although celebrities live their lives on a public stage, their fans are still not in a position to pass judgement on their personal lives. Mental health is a complicated subject, affected by more factors than an outsider could possibly know. The best thing to do when your fav is struggling is to support before judging, and understand the positions that life creates.
