We’ve had many types of influencers throughout the years. We have YouTubers, TikTokers, Streamers, and Instagram influencers. It seems like a new type pops up every year. Despite that, people still find themselves bored. I could scroll through TikTok for hours and feel like I’ve watched nothing. So what do we do? We take a break.
We all remember the cringe social media breaks we would post. “Don’t hit me up,” and all that jazz. Well, it seems that people are doing that more lately. The Incogni Blog reported that 55% of people are not posting as much as they usually do. Let’s take a closer look.
Why Are People Leaving?
People have blurred the lines of what it means to be an influencer. Originally, they we just here to entertain you during a moment of silence. Now, they are covered in ads. I did a little experimental to test this: I counted how many ads I got on TikTok in between videos. The longest I went without seeing an ad was five videos. The shortest? Two. Not to mention, that was the average amount. I could see the pattern—that’s insane! The worst part is that there is nothing you can do to get rid of the ads. That is why people are leaving.
Is the entertainment worth it when we can’t enjoy it in peace?
Why Influencers Are Joining in on the Social Media Exit?
Entertainment is a career that is always changing. What is funny today is cringe tomorrow. Influencer and content creators have to decide how to handle that. It’s one of those jobs that can be high risk, low reward. You pay for camera, mics, lights, travel and more. People are reporting online burnout, financial instability, and the fear of public background. Your audience is also more involved. To a certain degree, you have to listen to them. You may have to talk about a topic your not well versed in. We have seen several creators and influencers fall in this hole.
I think one of the main factors, for consumers and influencers is that it’s no longer fun. When scrolling though Instagram reel and Tiktoks, you can’t control what comes on. Then when it comes to YouTube, the ads are just as long as the video!
To end on a positive note, this is where hobbies come in! If you decide to go through with leaving social media, spend some of your new free time to try something new. As a big fan of crocheting, reading, and roller skating, you do feel better taking a break from the internet.
