Fans React to Harry Potter Trio Casting Announcement

Major news has dropped surrounding the official cast for the Harry Potter reboot on HBO television. Hardcore HP fans have been eagerly awaiting the cast decision for arguably the most beloved trio to ever hit literature and film – Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Those three infamous character slots have just been filled, and the internet is set ablaze over the decisions made. 

Harry Potter

Playing the one and only Harry Potter will be Dominic McLaughlin. Casting directors searched high and low to find the perfect child actor who could represent such an iconic figure, and after auditioning over 30,000 children, they landed on McLaughlin. Although McLaughlin has blue eyes, and the original Harry Potter character has green eyes, it has been confirmed that McLaughlin will be wearing green eye contacts to stay true to the J.K. Rowling character. For the most part, fans are excited to see how McLaughlin will handle this role and are happy with the casting outcome.

Hermione Granger

Following the announcement of Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, some fans reacted negatively, echoing similar backlash seen with the Snape casting. Much of the criticism targeted Stanton’s appearance, including her skin tone, teeth, and hair type, revealing the persistence of racist and Eurocentric beauty standards within parts of the fandom.

Other fans have come to support Stanton as Hermione, saying her big, beautiful smile is reminiscent of Hermione’s true, authentic self, and think Stanton will do Hermione justice without a hitch. 

Ron Weasley

The most agreed upon casting decision of the three actors seems to be Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. With the fiery red hair already down pat, it isn’t hard to see why. Stout doesn’t currently hold too many acting appearances in other projects, but based on appearance alone, most fans are welcoming him to the role with open arms.

As of yet, the original cast for the first Harry Potter films has not disclosed their reactions or thoughts towards the actors who will be taking their place for the reboot. According to some fan theories, this whole Harry Potter reboot is just an act of revenge from Rowling. 

Allegedly, Rowling is upset that she and the original cast aren’t on the best of terms, and they haven’t properly thanked her for all of their success the films have brought them. Some fans think that because of this reboot happening with ill intent from the author, the whole Harry Potter legacy will unfortunately crash and burn in no time.
