On Friday, April 5 Apple TV+ will present “Sugar,” an eight episode drama that has been described by the producers as “genre bending”. The series finds Colin Farrell returning to the small screen in the form of John Sugar – a film obsessed detective tasked with finding Olivia Siegel, the missing scion of The Siegel family, Hollywood film royalty.

We are trying to tell a classic noir detective story, while creating a modern take on it.

Sugar is a new take on the classic noir detective story with enough contemporary themes that makes the show feel vintage and fresh at the same time. Just N Life had the opportunity to sit down with “Sugar” powerhouse producers Simon Kinberg (X-Men, Invasion) and Audrey Chon (Lift, Oldboy).

Sugar loves movies and it’s the way he sees the world.

Stylistically, the series is a feast for the eyes of lovers of both television and movies. The action on screen is interspersed with reactions shots from classic cinema – which makes for an arresting and engaging visual style that echoes the rarely-mentioned series Dream On which aired on HBO, currently known as Max.

Dressed in bespoke suits, driving a beautiful blue Corvette, armed with an intense hatred of violence, Sugar takes on the seedy underworld of Los Angeles in an effort to find Olivia. There are secrets upon secrets revealed in the course of the investigation but are things with him as above board as they appear to be? Why is he so strong? Why is he so obsessed with this case? And what about that agency he works for headed by the mysterious, Ruby?
