FKA Twigs’ third studio album, Eusexua, is an electropop masterpiece filled with introspective lyrics and heavenly melodies. With only 11 songs, the English singer smoothly blends dance elements with mindfulness practices. From sharing her deepest thoughts to harmonizing over techno-like beats, Twigs encourages listeners to look within themselves and truly feel.
As the title suggests, Eusexua is a word created by Twigs that focuses on feeling present in all aspects of life. It can also be interpreted as a euphoric state of being. In an interview with Spotify featuring Imogen Heap, Twigs said the following: “And for me, Eusexua is creating purely, and unabashedly, it’s feeling more comfortable in my body sexually. It is just being more present and being able to be at that pinnacle of human experience as much as I possibly can.”

The four singles were true standouts, as they were all sexually liberating with Y2K pop and trip-hop sounds. The first single, “Eusexua,” introduces the feeling of finally being free. “Drums of Death” emphasizes relaxation while containing intense drumming and a glitching effect, giving it an industrial house sound. “Perfect Stranger” gives “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” by Kylie Minogue vibes with its bouncy bass and carefree lyrics about meeting someone for the first time without expectations. Meanwhile, the latest single, “Striptease,” softly mixes beeping noises and bass drops as Twigs emphasizes healing from past traumas and feeling comfortable in her skin again by saying, “I’m stripping my heart, till my pain disappears.”

The album’s deep cuts, on the other hand, bring this otherworldly project full circle, placing womanhood at the forefront. The electronic “Girl Feels Good” focuses on the positive internal feelings of a woman, and carries the same infectious energy as iiO’s 2001 single “Rapture.” On “Sticky,” Twigs’ vocals are slightly distorted, making it sound like she’s crying as she sings: “I’m tired of messing up my life with overcomplicated moments and sticky situations.”The dark outro of “Sticky” is also a haunting and suspenseful surprise.

Additionally, “24hr Dog” is the most melancholic song on the project, with its heavy use of synths and soft microbeats. The main theme revolves around being submissive to another person. In the song, Twigs also impressively mimics a howling dog as she sings, “Please don’t call my name/ When I submit to you this way/ I’m a dog for you.”

The dancy, upbeat club singles also elevated the listening experience, exuding joy and encouraging movement. For example, “Room Of Fools” delivers the perfect rave sound, reminiscent of Jersey Shore fist-pumping music, as Twigs belts out, “It feels nice.” Meanwhile, “Childlike Things” is purely nostalgic and fun, featuring North West rapping in Japanese.

Overall, FKA Twigs’ latest body of work was well worth the six-year wait. Eusexua is more than just an album—it’s a celebration of the human experience, inviting listeners to let loose, live in the moment, and dance their hearts out.
