Music legends Doechii and Lady Gaga teamed up for their latest project: a single featured in the latest trailer of the long-awaited fashion film The Devil Wears Prada 2.
20th Century Fox’s second film of the comedy-drama series comes 20 years after the first film graced our screens.
The film quickly became an early-2000s cult classic—capturing all things fashion: the good, the bad, and the ugly of the industry.
The original cast of the 2006 film largely return to reprise their roles two decades later.
Fans received a treat ahead of the May 1 theatrical release. A new single by LGBTQ icons Doechii and Lady Gaga dubbed “Runway” released on April 9. The single has the same name as the fictional fashion publication featured in the film.
Mimiyuuuh, a Filipino Youtuber and influencer, interviewed both Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway on April 11. Mimi thanked the star duo for their support of LGBTQIA+ voices in and around the fashion industry.
“As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, The Devil Wears Prada becomes a beacon of hope for all the girls and the gays. What can you say about the support [from this] community [for this] movie?”
“There would be no fashion in the world without the LGBTQ community,” Streep said. “[I have] nothing but gratitude—and worry about how we’re judged!”

Hathaway agreed, “I don’t know if we would have a sequel without the support of the LGBTQ+ community. They embraced this film so much; they kept it alive. We owe them so much.”
The dance track is energetic and catchy, encapsulating the energy of the fashion industry and iconography associated with fashion runways. Its chanting beat and lyrics echo “Cover Girl” by RuPaul, sharing a similar message of empowerment for self-expression through dance and fashion.
Celebrities and fans alike are already massively praising the song, calling it a “hit.” Others have tied the beat back to Gaga’s previous work: Chromatica and ARTPOP.

Both the film and the song are a testament to the queer community and the importance of representation. Prominent queer figures are also praising and amplifying the track.
Kevin Jz Prodigy, a ballroom commentator, singer, and music producer, teased a remix of “Runway.” Honey Balenciaga, a staple in the ballroom scene who performed with artists like Beyonce, Madonna, and Gaga, commented on the post, writing “OVAH.”

All in all, “Runway” showcases the beauty of the intersection between ballroom culture, queer culture, and fashion design. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is reigniting the Y2K obsession of fashion: the beautiful and beastly.
