Grammy-winning English singer Corinne Bailey Rae made quite an entrance on August 8th at Chicago’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion downtown. A staple of every mom’s Sunday morning car ride, Bailey Rae is the ethereal muse behind “Girl Put Your Records On,” for which she rose to fame. Opening up her electric performance were five-time Grammy-nominee Terrace Martin and Grammy-winning musician James Fauntleroy with fun hip-hop jazz numbers too.

Radiating in a purple jumpsuit, Bailey-Rae included a range of songs from a groovy R&B number called “Been to the Moon” to some of her acoustic melodies like “Breathless” from her self-titled debut album back from 2006.

Her concert was part of Chicago’s Millennium Park Summer Music Series, which offers free concerts throughout June-August at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion from artists of all genres like classical, rock, jazz and more. This year marks the series’ 20th anniversary, so having Bailey-Rae close it out was particularly fun.

Bailey Rae’s performance was especially radiant because she pulled out a unique set of instruments like yellow wind chimes and a tambourine which she played with gleeful passion, letting go completely.
Aside from her jam-packed concerts, Bailey Rae is reportedly working on 10 new, unreleased songs from her most recent album, Black Rainbows. Bailey Rae has said she prioritizes her creative process over commercial fame, something that translates so beautifully into her live performances. Her creativity and soothing voice closed the night with a warm gift, like unwrapping the moon for Christmas.
