Chappell Roan is once again under the eye of many people over her latest controversy.
Roan’s security team is facing accusations that they made an 11-year-old fan cry, and the fan’s famous family has gone public with their complaints. Here’s what you need to know.
Frello’s Side
Jorginho Frello posted a story to Instagram to express his feelings towards the singer. His wife, Catherine Harding, and daughter were staying at the same hotel as Roan. Harding shares a daughter with Jude Law while they were in a relationship. But they split before the pregnancy was announced. Now, they are coparents.
Harding and their daughter were in São Paulo for LollapaloozaBR. He says, “My daughter woke up incredibly excited, she even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire.” He goes on to name and at Roan. Frello says,” By coincidence, they’re staying at the same hotel as the artist. During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognized her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her.”
He continues, “and the worst part is she didn’t even approach her. She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mom. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything.”
He explains that shortly after, “a large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter.” Frello says the security guard’s words were that Harding shouldn’t “allow their daughter to disrespect or harass other people.”
He seems baffled when he says, ” Honestly, I don’t know at what point simply walking past the table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment. Frello then says,“The security guard said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old was sitting there in tears.” He continues,“My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.”

As Frello is a football player, he says, “I’ve lived with football, public exposure, and well-known people for many years, and I understand very well what respect and boundaries are. What happened there was not that.” He states, “It was just a child admiring someone.”
Frello says, “It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this. I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child.” He once again tags Roan. He concludes his post by saying, “Without your fans, you would be nothing. And to the fans, she does not deserve your affection.”
Chappell’s Side
Roan took to Instagram story on Sunday morning to address the situation, wanting to tell her side of the story. Clarifying that her “personal security” was not involved.
She starts, “I’m just going to tell my half of the story of what happened today with the mother and child who were involved with a security guard who is not my personal security. I didn’t even see, I didn’t even see a woman and a child. Like, no one came up to me. No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel. I think these people were staying at the hotel as well.”
She states that “the fact that a security guard who was I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe, because there is no action even taken.” Roan goes on to say how “she does not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy.” She finishes by saying, “I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something that you would do something and that if you felt uncomfortable, it makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”
Harding’s Side
We are given another perspective on the story as Harding posted a video to her Instagram. She says, “I know that Chapel has responded, saying it wasn’t her security and that she didn’t do it. So, 100% the security guard was not a security guard at the hotel, that’s what I can say. He looks after artists. So I don’t know if it was her personal security guard, but he was with her. That is all I know.”
She adds that she “would like to hope” that Roan didn’t send the security guard over, but noted, “I think that you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity, to make sure that the people that work for you are acting on your behalf. So, would he do that if he didn’t have her authority to do so? I don’t know.”
She then recounts the story of when the family was sitting at breakfast together in the hotel, when they thought they saw the singer walk by. That is when her daughter decided to walk by the garden table to see if it was her.
“She literally didn’t do anything, she just looked at her,” Katherine explained, noting that Ada “wasn’t even sure if it was Chapel sitting at the table. And that was it. We continued our breakfast. And came the security guard who, as my husband said, had a very aggressive tone.”
She once again emphasized that she “can’t say if the singer did or didn’t send the guard over, but that she felt as if it overstepped a boundary, because he is quite intimidating.”

They ultimately did not attend the concert that night, which was their daughter’s birthday present. She adds, “I hope that she did not send her security over to do this. I really think that she’s a very, very, very talented artist. We like her thought.”
Harding notes that this is the last she and her husband planned to discuss the topic, concluding with, “I hope that maybe, if it wasn’t her, that she learns to not allow the people that work for her to treat people like this.”
Fan Reactions
After all of that, fans are divided on who is right and who is in the wrong. Many on Twitter have responded to Harding’s video. Some commenting on Harding not being able to confirm anything and just making assumptions. Others have said that it’s obvious Roan’s security guard was rude towards the girl sharing a video of Roan in an airport. Some say to leave Chapel alone and stay away from her. Also, one fan said that now we need the security side of the story.
The World May Never Know
At the end of the day, we don’t know who was really at fault. We just know different sides of the story. There is a saying that there is one person’s side of the story, the other person’s side of the story, and the truth of what happened. We will have to live with the fact that we might not know who was in the right in this situation.
