On May 23, music legend Celine Dion released the trailer for a new documentary titled I Am: Celine Dion directed by Irene Taylor that will debut on Amazon Prime Video on June 25. The documentary’s two-minute trailer makes good use of its run time by not only showcasing interesting footage from the upcoming film but also dropping the emotional bombshell that the entire documentary will revolve around.

At the trailer’s forty-second mark, Celine talks about how she has been diagnosed with a “very rare neurological disorder” that she has identified in other interviews as Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). Despite having announced her diagnosis in December of 2022, according to Entertainment Weekly, Celine announces that she’s ready to discuss the topic more openly. “I wasn’t ready to say anything before,” she says in the trailer, “but I’m ready now.”

The rest of the trailer showcases Celine’s attempt to fight her way back to the stage after having to cancel her 2022 Courage world tour. “When you record, it sounds great,” she says in the trailer. “But when you go on stage, it will be greater.”

Another called Celine Dion “The icon of my life. You’re a gift from God, Celine, and your fans all around the world wish you nothing but the very best.”

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Stiff Person Syndrome is “a rare, progressive neurological disorder” with symptoms including “stiff muscles in the trunk (torso), arms, and legs, greater sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress, which can set off muscle spasms.

Since her diagnosis, Celine has made a few public appearances, most recently at the 2024 Grammy Awards to present the ceremony’s final award “Album Of The Year” to Taylor Swift for Midnights
