The Olympics isn’t only a place of dreams for athletes, but singers as well. Just like the Olympians who have trained their whole lives to get to this point, music legend Celine Dion has trained relentlessly to deliver her jaw-dropping performance at the Paris 2024 Summer Games Opening Ceremony.
Celine’s story has been back in the limelight ever since her documentary “I Am: Celine Dion” was released on Amazon Prime in June. The documentary shows’ Celine’s battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that has thrown a massive roadblock into the legendary singer’s career and life in general. “I Am: Celine Dion” did not shy away from how difficult the disorder has made Celine’s life, including a very vivid scene of Celine having a seizure. This raised concerns among the public for Celine’s health and whether she could perform at the Olympics in a way that was safe for her. Thankfully, Celine was able to overcome all the odds to deliver a showstopping performance.
Celine’s performance served as the finale to the over four-hour opening ceremony. While the whole event was filled with drama, from French metal act Gojira’s fire-laced performance to the pomp of Lady Gaga’s number, Celine ended the ceremony very simply. Standing atop the Eiffel Tower, accompanied only by a piano, Celine Dion belted out “Hymne A L’Amour,”.
Her majestic performance served not only as a climax to the ceremony literally, but emotionally, and became one of the most talked about moments of the night. Guest commentator and fellow singer, Kelly Clarkson was moved to tears following Dion’s performance, stating “If you know anything about Celine right now, she feels this is her purpose… and if you know anything about what she’s going through right now… In my field, she is the gold winner for vocal athletes.”
An outpouring of support and admiration came from all corners of the internet for Celine Dion

After the performance, Celine took to Instagram to express her gratitude to the Olympics and praise the athletes saying “I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities! Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance.”
