The 2024 New York City Marathon, the sixth and final event of the calendar year’s World Marathon Majors events, capped the first Sunday of November off in grand fashion.
Organized by New York Road Runners, in conjunction with TCS, the Marathon attracts tens of thousands of runners and millions of spectators. This year’s 53rd annual race saw 55,646 finishers and every finisher’s name appeared, alongside their time, in the New York Times on Monday morning.
The winners were well celebrated as they crossed the finish line. Abdi Nageeye won the men’s division in just 2:07:39, winning his first New York title on his fourth try. Sheila Chepkirui finished in 2:24:35, winning the women’s division in her New York City debut. Sofia Camacho Ferral was the first non-binary finisher to cross the finish line, coming in at 2:31:29.
Kayleigh Williamson, who made history as the first woman with Down Syndrome to finish the NYC Marathon in 2023, finished the race again this year.
Proud of Abdi Nageeye for winning the 2024 New York City Marathon 🎉

I think it’s about time #Somaliland sets up it’s very own sports personality of the year with all these amazing athletes across the world.

Even the final finishers were surrounded by support, as reported by NYT, in a tradition to cheer on the final finishers dating to 2016. At around 9 pm, Mario Bollini crossed the finish line at his 38th NYC Marathon, just months after suffering a knee injury. Danielle Grimley, determined to finish despite her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a disorder of connective tissue, hopped across the finish line — on crutches — at 9:30 pm. NYT reports that she might even run it again next year.

Some notable celebrities also ran the 26.2 miles, including Internet personalities Timm and Kelly Chiusano, actor Randall Park, and New York state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani (who also happens to be running for mayor right now).
@timmchiusano you did this, tiktok ❤️ y’all are the ones that encouraged me to survive my first marathon back in ‘22 and cheered for me in person more than i could have fathomed that year… then last year you showed up bigger and stronger somehow 💪 this year i had no time goal and just went based on how i felt, and i felt your energy out there to the point of being teary eyed which kelly can attest to i can never thank y’all enough everyday, but especially on this sunday in particular 🗽❤️🏅 love you love, timm
