Actor Tim Curry, known for roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, IT and Clue, has died at 80.
Curry had been plagued with health issues for more than a decade after suffering from a near-fatal stroke in 2012, using a wheelchair since the incident. The actor gave a health update in 2025 at a 50th anniversary screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Academy Museum in L.A.
“I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting. So I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg.”
Cops responded Tuesday at 11:23 p.m. “for a radio call of a death investigation for a subject described as an 80-year-old male.”
A representative for Curry, Sean Katz, confirmed the news, saying the actor “passed away peacefully”
Curry began his career on stage in London in the late 1960s, starring in the original West End production of Hair. He then famously played mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter on stage, a role he would later reprise in the cult classic ‘Rocky Horror’.
Best known for his campy villain work, Curry went on to star in several classics throughout the 1980s and 90s. Notable Curry roles include Rooster in the 1982 film adaptation of Annie, Wadsworth in Clue, Pennywise the clown in the 1990s miniseries IT, and Mr Hector in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
No specific cause of death for the actor has been given.
