Directors of the franchise James Wan and Michael Chaves left us fans with a horror-packed trilogy in 2021. The third film is The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. In a nutshell, each Conjuring film concludes with Ed and Lorraine defeating the ghostly villain and restoring peace to the troubled family. So, what makes this last chapter anything different than what fans have already seen? Well, this film is based on the true story of why Ed and Lorraine quit ghost hunting for good. I think we’ll be needing that nightlight now…
The Premise
According to the trailer snippets, Ed and Lorraine are once again helping a family in a paranormal crisis in Pennsylvania. It’s still up to debate on which real-life case the film is inspired by. However, it’s speculated to be the Smurl family case. It’s an intense one, with reports of the Smurl’s daughter being pushed down a flight of stairs. This could be why the trailer shows an apprehensive Lorraine, clearly unsettled by whatever haunts the Smurl house. Lorraine tells the family that the evil entity haunting their house is the one they encountered while they were younger. Possible flashback alert?
The Ghoul Lineup
About a minute into the trailer, fans were rejoicing at the little surprise cameo from our favorite creepy but infamous Annabelle doll. She’s been sprinkled into the Conjuring universe all throughout the franchise. It appears that we might finally be getting a conclusion to her story. The crooked man, from The Conjuring 2, also makes an appearance. It will be interesting to see his involvement in this new addition!
The main antagonist is a new face we have yet to see. He is rumored to be controlling all the other spooky creatures in the movie.
An End of an Era
The Conjuring universe has been scaring our socks off for twelve years now! Farmiga and Wilson have grown incredibly close while filming, and they even consider each other family because of it. Wilson often refers to Farmiga as his “fake wife” and absolutely adores her, just as much as the fans do. It’s going to be bittersweet saying farewell to our favorite ghost hunting couple! We can’t wait to see how the Conjuring franchise wraps up after over a decade of thrills and jump scares.
