Last week, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert had the honor of revealing John Krasinski as People Magazine’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive.
“Every year, People Magazine, the only magazine made by and for people, awards this awesome responsibility to one of the giants in the world of male sexness,” Stephen Colbert said.
Having announced Sexiest Man Alive 2021 and 2022 (Paul Rudd and Chris Evans, respectively), Colbert indicated who he was hoping he’d be announcing this year. “Now for those of you keeping track, you might be aware, that someone has not been named Sexiest Man Alive,” he said. “But this year, is the third year I’ve announced it, and third time’s a charm. So I’m not saying I know who it is but it’s 100% me.”
Before the actual sexy man himself appeared on stage, Colbert dramatically read Krasinski’s name from a gold envelop with a red seal, backed by a drum roll.
Krasinski is best known for his role as Jim Halpert on the hit comedy, The Office. Jim was known to be a prankster and loveable goofball and that’s who Krasinski is as well. Krasinski has appeared in many movies, including The Holiday (2006), License to Wed (2007), Something Borrowed (2011), 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016), and the Amazon Prime series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. More recently, he has starred in and directed the Quiet Place movies, as well as this year’s IF.
“I — look at him, I get it,” Colbert said. “Plus we’re friends. So a very, very sexy congrats to the very sexy John Kra-sexy,” he continued. “I just really thought this was going to be my year.”
The Massachusetts-native popped on stage to console Colbert for not being named Sexiest Man Alive. Krasinski wore a simple, grey, double-breasted suit, made complete by Swiftie friendship bracelets.
From under the desk emerged a VHS tape labeled “Sexy.” In a “How to be Sexy” video, a spoof of an 80s workout tape, Krasinski shows Colbert how to be sexy, including cloning 2022’s Sexiest Man, Evans.
From the video, it’s clear why Krasinski was named this year’s sexiest man alive: While Colbert is trying hard to appear sexy, Krasinski struts on a treadmill, looking awesome. The video is hilarious and worth the watch.
When asked how long he’s known and had to keep the news a secret, Krasinski joked, “I’ve known since, uhhh, five minutes ago,” following that up with the confession that he thinks the award is a prank.
Krasinski hit his stride bantering with Colbert, emulating the funniest parts of Jim and being his own likeable self, including making a joke that Matthew McConaughey has an artist’s residence at People’s Sexiest and McConaughey has to approve who is awarded the title every year.
X-users have mixed feelings about the announcement, including disappointment about the honor not going to Glen Powell.

Others are included in People’s sexiest issue: the men of New Girl — Lamorne Morris, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Damon Wayans Jr. — and musician Benny Blanco. People was excited to share Blanco’s cooking and hosting skills, which he’s written a cookbook about. However, social media users had a lot to say about his inclusion in the issue.
The person most excited that People chose John Krasinki? His wife, Emily Blunt. Apparently, she told her husband that if he was ever awarded the honor, she would wallpaper their Brooklyn apartment with the magazine cover.
Krasinski will soon appear in a Jack Ryan movie, following his work on the Prime series. The 2024 Sexiest Man Alive issue of People Magazine is available for purchase and there are two covers to choose from — you, too, can wallpaper your apartment with John Krasinski’s face.
