6 Honeymoon Hacks To Save Couples Hundreds

As I’m preparing for a wedding, I’ve come to realize that saying ‘I do’ can come with a hefty price tag. Reports show that in 2024, couples are shelling out a whopping $33,000 on average for their wedding, up from $29,000 in 2023. And while honeymoons are practically tradition, the average cost of $2,500 to $3,500 can feel like another financial blow.

We all want to save some coins, including me! That’s why I’m happy Jason Higgs, Senior Deals Strategist at Bountii and a money-saving expert, is on hand to provide some honeymoon hacks that could help you save hundreds on your dream honeymoon.

Be Flexible with Your Dates

“Traveling during peak season can be expensive,” Jason points out. “If you’re flexible with your travel dates, you can save a significant amount of money.” Consider traveling in the shoulder seasons (the weeks or months between peak season and off-season) or during the off-season altogether.

Consider Alternative Honeymoon Destinations

Not all honeymoon destinations are created equal. Some destinations are simply more expensive than others. If you’re open to considering alternative destinations, you can save a lot of money. “There are plenty of beautiful and affordable honeymoon destinations around the world,” says Jason. “Do some research to find a destination that fits your budget and interests.”

Timing Is Everything

The earlier you book your flights, the cheaper they are likely to be. This is especially true for popular destinations and travel times. “If you know when and where you want to travel, start looking for flights as soon as possible,” says Jason. “You may be able to score some great deals.”

Deals & Packages

Many travel companies offer deals and packages on honeymoon travel. These can be a great way to save money on flights, accommodations and activities. “Be sure to shop around and compare prices before you book anything,” says Jason. “You may be surprised at how much you can save by booking a package deal.”

Cruises can be a great option for a honeymoon, especially if you’re looking for an all-inclusive vacation. Cruises typically include your accommodations, meals, drinks and entertainment. “Cruises can be a great way to see multiple destinations without having to unpack and repack your bags,” says Jason. “They can also be a good option if you’re on a budget, since everything is typically included in the price of your cruise.”

Use Travel Points and Miles

If you have travel points or miles, now would be the best time to use them! Many travel rewards programs allow you to redeem your points or miles for flights, accommodation, and even activities.

“By following these tips, you can create a honeymoon that’s both romantic and budget-friendly,” says Jason. “Remember, a little flexibility and smart planning can go a long way towards making your dream getaway a reality.”
