Zendaya Has Surpassed 1 Billion Streams on Spotify For Song “Rewrite the Stars”

Zendaya, two-time Emmy award-winning actress and fashion icon, has just surpassed 1 billion streams for her song “Rewrite the Stars.” It is the first song in her limited discography to hit this milestone.

A Jack Of All Trades

You probably know Zendaya from her role in ChallengersEuphoriaDune, or Spider-Man; or her iconic fashion sense. But her music career doesn’t seem to be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Zendaya began making music while she was on Disney. Her first song, “Swag It Out”, was released in 2011 and currently has 10.5 million streams. She also sang several songs for her Disney shows Shake It Off and K.C. Undercover. She would then go on to release her first and only album Zendaya, which includes her single “Replay.” “Replay” became a fan favorite and currently has 199 million listens on Spotify.

After that Zendaya appeared on screen as Anne Wheeler in the 2017 movie musical The Greatest Showman, where she sang in the duet “Rewrite the Stars” alongside Zach Efron. This song was met with great excitement from viewers, being Zendaya’s first song since her album and the Disney days. Since then, she has appeared on the Euphoria track list in songs like “All for Us” and “I’m Tired,” alongside Labrinth

But, for the most part, music has taken a backseat in her career, making her milestone of having a song earn more than 1 billion streams even more impressive. Only 689 songs have reached this milestone and with over 100 million songs on Spotify, “Rewrite The Stars” is in the 0.0000689% of songs that have surpassed 1 billion streams. But it is no surprise that Zendaya’s very limited discography has done so well; she has been able to excel in every industry.

A beloved actress, Zendaya has cultivated an image of sophistication while remaining humble and relatable. It has garnered an almost perfect public image in Hollywood and has earned her many fans of all ages. She can move from industry to industry gracefully and successfully.

After starting as a child actress on Disney Channel, she was then able to pivot to an incredibly different role in the mature show Euphoria, which is not an easy feat. Being able to move from Disney or Nickelodeon to more serious roles has proven to be difficult for others in the past. Still, Zendaya could do it seamlessly while recognizing that a big part of her fanbase were young kids.

Many child actors who start on networks designed for kids often denounce their past and separate themselves from their previous fan base in hopes of being taken more seriously. While this is an understandable reaction, Zendaya can both value the young fans who watch her act on Disney and also pursue more serious roles she is interested in. Right before the premiere of Euphoria, Zendaya made sure to post a warning on X of the mature themes the show has while making sure her young fans knew that they are still appreciated:

“Just a reminder before tonight’s premiere, that Euphoria is for mature audiences. It’s a raw and honest portrait of addiction, anxiety, and the difficulties of navigating life today. There are scenes that are graphic, hard to watch and can be triggering. Please only watch if you feel you can handle it. Do what’s best for you. I will still love you and feel your support. Love, Daya.”
