In case you missed it, Anne Hathaway confirmed The Princess Diaries 3 and we all screamed and cried. Hathaway posted a reel to her Instagram announcing the news earlier this month and the response was overwhelmingly positive. We’ve only been waiting for this for 20 years, since The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement blew us all out of the water. While Anne Hathaway is the only returning cast member confirmed to return so far, Julie Andrews and Chris Pine have both expressed interest in a third film, so we’ll just have to wait and see. This announcement could not have come at a better time for fans—with Halloween right around the corner, this is the perfect time to bust out a The Princess Diaries-themed Halloween costume.

This is a classic Princess Diaries reference — everyone will recognize your costume. All you need is any white dress (preferably strapless), a tiara (she’s a princess, of course), black sunglasses, black over-ear wired headphones, and long white gloves! Finish the look with a pair of white sneakers, for comfort at your Halloween festivities. You’ll look just like Mia Thermopolis on The Princess Diaries movie poster! You might even already have these costume pieces just lying around, which makes this an easy and cheap costume.

In another classic reference to the first film, you can dress as Mia Thermopolis, the schoolgirl (before she learned she was a princess). You obviously have to fluff up your hair—either rock your natural curls, or sleep in some braids the night before so you have texture in your hair! For the actual costume, all you need is a blue button-down shirt, a blue plaid school skirt, a navy neck-tie, black knee-high socks paired with black flat sneakers, and wire-framed glasses. If you want to make this a duo costume, you and your bestie could go dressed as Mia and Lily!

If you’re more of a lover of The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (it has Chris Pine, we get it), you could always try this costume! This iconic red birthday dress moment can be recreated with a pretty red strapless dress, and the same white long gloves and tiara from the first costume.
