Whitney Leavitt Invests in Hair Extensions, and They’re Not Jessi Draper’s

Whitney Leavitt is officially joining the hair extension business. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (SLOMW) star announced on Instagram that she is investing in CELVIÁ, a hair care company producing hair extensions and other tools. The company is owned by Cassadi Currier, the stylist behind Leavitt’s iconic red locks.

Leavitt’s decision to invest in CELVIÁ comes after months of working with Currier to repair Leavitt’s damaged hair, perfect her iconic red color, and give her length and volume with CELVIÁ extensions. Leavitt called CELVIÁ’s hair extensions “the best hair [she’s] ever owned.”

The video posted to Instagram and TikTok of Leavitt surprising Currier with her desire to invest is a sweet moment between dear friends. The video has received over 3.6 million views on Instagram and 2.9 million on TikTok. But the internet is wondering — is this a dig at Jessi Draper

Jessi’s Hair Empire

Draper, one of Leavitt’s fellow SLOMW cast members and friends, founded and owns JZ Styles, a hair extension empire based out of Pleasant Grove, Utah. The company sells and produces different types of hair extensions and trains stylists across the country to install their extensions. According to their Instagram, they have over 4,200 JZ Styles-trained stylists nationwide. In addition to their certifications, JZ Styles also produces other styling products and tools and runs a hair design school in Utah called JZ Academy

Since season one of SLOMW, Draper has made it clear that her co-stars come to her to get their hair done. Across the show’s four seasons, multiple storylines have centered on whether the SLOMW women are going to Draper for their hair care and if they’re happy with the results. In season three, cast member Layla Taylor visited a stylist specializing in ethnic hair to rehabilitate her hair. She was nervous to admit to Draper she’d gone somewhere else. Draper was understanding and reassured Taylor that she’d made the right choice, but the change was significant enough in the women’s minds to warrant significant caution and care.

The joke about Draper’s possessiveness over her cast members’ hair continues today. In January, Draper posted a reel to Instagram with fellow SLOMW cast member Mayci Neeley, where Neeley pretended to be tied up in the back of Draper’s trunk after Draper found out someone else did her hair.

Trouble in Paradise

Though Draper hasn’t commented publicly on Leavitt’s announcement and the two seem to be on neutral terms, fans in the comments of Leavitt’s video speculated about Draper’s negative reaction.

The announcement couldn’t come at a worse time for Draper, whose life seems to have exploded since the release of SLOMW season four. On March 19, Draper’s husband, Jordan Ngatikaura, filed for divorce. Draper sat down with Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy to share her side of the story days later. Shortly after, news broke that Draper had kissed Chase McWhorter, the ex-husband of SLOMW cast member Miranda Hope. Draper sent flowers to Hope to apologize, but there’s been no word of an official reconciliation.

Drama Free

In contrast, Leavitt and her husband, Conner Leavitt, are experiencing the most success and positive press they’ve ever received following the release of a season of SLOMW. After all of the “DadTok” drama in season four, Conner seems to be the only husband (or ex-husband) who managed to stay out of the dog house. He and Leavitt appear to be living their best lives in New York City while Leavitt performs as Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway.

Leavitt’s decision to invest in CELVIÁ looks like an innocent one. With all the drama surrounding the women of the SLOMW, the cast has bigger problems to tackle than Leavitt investing in and uplifting another woman’s small business.
