Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers have found their way back to each other, and not only that, but they are engaged! The question is, how did we get here? What do we know about their relationship? Well, it started about a decade ago.
When Did They First Meet?
Powers and Destiny first met at a Teen Vogue party back in 2015. Specifically, the 13th annual Young Hollywood Issue Launch Party in Los Angeles on October 2, 2015. The duo had arrived separately. They seemed to remain platonic for a while before they began to talk over Instagram.
Though, like many celebrities, they kept their relationship out of the public eye. It wasn’t until June 2019 that Powers and Destiny made their debut. This was when they were attending the 2018 BET awards, where wore Basquiat-inspired outfits. It was later said that the decision to go public wasn’t something they planned in a video the actress did with MadameNoire.
When Did They Make It Official?
It was made official in July 2019 after a lot of speculation that they did a joint digital cover interview with We the Urban (which is sadly no longer accessible). It was the first time they talked about their relationship freely. We do have interview quotes, thanks to Teen Vogue. In their quotes, Destiny says that “We were just friends for a minute. So when we let things naturally happen…love falls in naturally too… You see things differently. Want to be different. The best you for yourself. The best you for your other. Knowing things will get-if anything more difficult, but knowing you both are in it. Once I realized that, and then some, it was a rush.” She goes on to discuss at length how “loving someone is a very natural feeling that just happens,” and how she “…realized that I’m ready to deal with anything I have to deal with alongside Ryan. Once I felt that, I knew.”
When Did They Split?
It was in January 2022 that Powers and Destiny split after four years together. A source told People that “They’re taking time to focus on themselves and their emerging careers but are remaining close friends.”
Throughout 2023 and 2024, Destiny and Powers were seen together at many public events. Such as the premiere of The Perfect Find in New York, pre-Oscars parties, and the NAACP Image Awards.
When Did They Get Back Together?
The two seemed to remain close and quietly got back together. In December 2024, Destiny revealed on The Breakfast Club that she and Powers were “really good” and confirmed their breakup was just a bump in the road. It was just two months later, in February 2025, that Destiny confirmed to People that they were back together.
When Did They Get Engaged?
Finally, on October 5 of this year, Powers and Destiny announced they were engaged in a joint Instagram post. It was a joint photo shoot showing off the engagement ring. The caption read “Engaged to the love of my life.”
They spoke in more detail about the engagement with Essence. It happened fairly recently, “Over a sweet, private, candlelit dinner at the Rosewood Miramar Beach.” All the while, violinist Jeremy Green serenaded them. “The engagement itself was really intimate and tender; it just felt right,” the couple explained. “Now that we’re stepping into wedding planning, we’re trying to approach it the same way we approach everything else that matters… We’ve always been teammates, and I’m just really grateful that I get to have my best friend, and now my fiancé by my side.”
It was revealed in Essence that Powers had been planning to propose for a year and a half. “Things came up along the way, and I had to keep pushing it back. It made me a bit anxious, but I never questioned God’s timing.”
It has truly worked out for the couple. And all we can say is congratulations, and we wish them all the best!
