A man’s height has long been a hot topic in the dating world, often becoming a make-or-break factor in relationships. And now, the debate has gotten even messier: Tinder has officially announced that a height filter will be implemented on the app. What!?
For now, the feature is being tested on Gold and Premium users. According to Tinder, “the feature is a preference rather than a hard filter, so it doesn’t outright block or exclude profiles but acts more as a guidepost.”
Users can input their preferred partner height, and the filter will serve as a navigation tool, helping surface matches who meet that criteria. The announcement has sparked backlash, with some users upset that they’re not getting a fair shot at dating.

Much of the criticism — mostly from male users — has taken things a step too far. Some are demanding that if Tinder adds a height filter for men, then it should also add a weight filter for women.
But comparing a man’s height to a woman’s weight is hardly equal — and only adds to the stigma that women must meet a certain body standard. Plus, the filter isn’t exclusive to men. Women can also be sorted by height, so claims of a double standard don’t really hold up.
Other users aren’t necessarily angry, but are voicing concern about the future of dating apps. If the height filter sticks and becomes more widely available, some people worry it could open the door to even more specific filters — like for eye color or hair color.
This new update is still in its testing phase, and Tinder will be collecting data on its performance over the coming weeks. Free users don’t have access yet, but if the feature proves popular with paying members, it may eventually roll out to everyone.
