We’re just two months away from the 76th Emmy Awards, and this year’s competition is as stiff as ever. Hosted annually by the Television Academy, the Emmy Awards strive to celebrate “excellence in national primetime programming.” The full list of nominees for the 2024 award cycle was announced on Wednesday morning by Emmy winners Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale alongside Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego in a live-streamed ceremony from El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
“Television delivers stories that connect us, uplift us, challenge us, and always entertain us,” Abrego said during the livestream. “Today, I am honored to celebrate the outstanding work of our extraordinarily talented and hardworking creative community.”
This year’s roster is full of new faces, with 36 performers receiving first-time nominations. This includes Eric André for The Eric Andre Show, Lionel Boyce for The Bear, Richard Gadd for his performance, production and writing on Baby Reindeer, Lily Gladstone for Under the Bridge, Greta Lee for The Morning Show, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for Only Murders in the Building.

There were also several performers who received multiple nominations this year including Quinta Brunson, Donald Glover, Jodie Foster and Maya Rudolph.
In a big win for FX, the beloved Hulu series The Bear received a striking 23 nominations, breaking the record for the most nominations for a show in the Comedy category. The show was only beaten by FX’s Shōgun, which snagged 25 nominations in this year’s Drama category.

This year’s nomination list also made history with Gladstone and actress Kali Reiss becoming the first Indigenous women to receive Emmy nominations for acting. They are only the second and third Indigenous actors to ever be nominated for Emmy awards, preceded by actor August Schellenberg in 2007.

In a heartwarming moment, Sherly Lee Ralph also found out during the livestream that she had received another Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of the iconic Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary.
