Love is in the air and it is evident in the kindheartedness being shown for Random Acts of Kindness week this week. With all the glitz that this season of love has to offer, there is also so much compassion and humanness that can be found in the many ways in which people make time to help one another or go out of their way for someone. Even if it’s just a small act of service, these small acts can create a large impact altogether. There is something golden and serene about helping someone while expecting nothing in return. It just feels good! Making someone feel special is so important. It’s also a crucial time right now to share love in a world where hate is becoming systematic and further infiltrating our society.
Spreading love through completing random acts of kindness can inspire hope, too. For those who feel mistreated or discouraged by the unkind rulings of the world, seeing an influx of random acts of appreciation and care can ease their mind and promote peace. Similar to helping others and prompting them to pay it forward, random acts of kindness can lead to others wanting to share in the kindness, making the world a better place to live in and igniting this tradition for future generations.

To radiate positivity in an increasingly negative world, here are some ideas to spread love and kindness at work and while you’re out and about.
- Give a hand at the Grocery: You can grab someone’s cart to return or use when you enter the grocery store.
- ‘Do good’ at the Drive-Through or Coffee shop: You can pay for the person behind you in the drive-through or the customer in the coffee line behind you to show kindness and give someone in the world a little treat! If you’re in the drive-through, make sure to check that the car behind you only has one member in the party to avoid paying for several meals, unless you intend to treat several people this week.
- Write a card for your neighbors to say hello or bake some cookies to share: This is a kind, low-cost activity that brings love and light to one’s day. You can even make your own card if you have construction paper at home to make this a fun and free activity for your family or roommates. If you don’t like to bake from scratch, you can find some Valentine’s Day cookie dough on sale to get baking!
- Pay someone a compliment: Another completely free item on the list is complimenting someone. It doesn’t cost anything to make someone smile. You can tell your co-workers how great a job they’re doing – or compliment someone’s progress in your gym or workout studio.
- Call and text your old friends: Send that sweet and gushy text telling your girls how much they mean to you and that you’re thinking about them! If you have the time, give your old friends a call this weekend to catch up and let them know you’re thinking of them.
- Gift your girlfriends flowers: If you have good friends at work or that live close by you can bring them flowers this month to show appreciation for them! You don’t even have to dent your bank account on this – You can get a bunch of roses or carnations and tie a dollar store ribbon on each one to hand out individually. A single flower can go a long way and send a great message of care and a great way to celebrate springtime.
- Support Local or show that social media love: Take a couple of minutes to write a kind review for your favorite small business or family-owned restaurant. This is a great way to spread kindness without spending money and support your favorite small businesses. You could also share a post from their business page or spread love through kind comments on social media in general throughout the month of love.
- Clean out that closet!: It’s about time for some spring cleaning, anyway. This week, you can take some time to go through your things and donate any gently used clothing or furniture to your local non-profit resale shops. It’s a great way to give new life to the things you love but no longer need. You may also have books to donate to a free little library (miniature park library) nearby or your local bookstore.
- Pick up trash in your community: A great way to be kind to others by being kind to the planet! You can organize a trash pick up with neighbors or spend half an hour on your day off this month to pick up any litter you see. You can also keep this in mind if you take a daily walk to make it part of your routine. As a safety precaution, it’s a great idea to either wear gloves or ensure you wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
- Leave a kind note for a stranger: You can add a sweet sticky note message to the bulletin board at work, the gym, or the community center to uplift others! The message could include kind affirmations or a positive upbeat quote to inspire love, celebrate underrepresented groups, or simply tell others they are loved!
