Soak up the Last Days of Summer with These Activities!

How are we at the end of July already! There’s plenty of summer nights and lasting sunshine ahead of us, but we are inching closer towards that chilly autumn weather once August is here. Stores have already beaten fall to the punch with Halloween decor slowly appearing on the shelves.

Whether you’re in school or an older adult just hanging on to the last moments of summer with a vice grip, we have some helpful ideas to cherish the summer season before it’s almost over!

Water Activities

Spending time in the water somewhere is just about as summer-exclusive as you can get. Even weather towards late August can get too cool for water activities, so plan the rest of your days at the pool, lake, or beach for the rest of this month. Water parks are closed all winter long, so if that’s your thing, stock up on tickets for you and your friends in the coming weeks. Public pools also typically shut down during the fall and winter months, which means now’s the time to fit in all your pool hangout sessions and parties over the next few weekends!

Tanning

Unless you live in the South or on the West Coast, sunny days are unfortunately few and far between once autumn begins. Your chance of soaking up enough Vitamin D from the sun decreases during the stretch of fall and winter, so laying out in the sun is a must for the next month or so. If you get bored while tanning, try multitasking like playing a card game with friends or reading a new book you’ve been dying to start. You never realize how much you miss the sunshine once winter is in full swing, so take advantage now!

Ice Cream Runs

One of the most depressing parts of winter is all the ice cream shops closing until next summer. Warm, hearty treats for a cold winter day are something to look forward to, but nothing hits the spot like ice cream. Store-bought ice cream comes in handy when necessary, but make sure to appreciate your local ice cream shops before they’re out of commission come fall. Bonus: Some small or family-owned ice cream stores tend to offer end-of-summer discounts, too!

Gardening

Nothing says winter’s blues like the loss of gardening and planting! As soon as the first frost hits, all of your hard-earned gardening efforts go dormant until the springtime. Fresh fruits and vegetables are only available during summer, whether from a farmer’s market or your own backyard, so don’t let anything go to waste. Spend extra time in your garden this weekend to memorize that feeling of peace it gives you. Pull up a chair and sip your morning coffee outside, or use the time to get your space winter-ready so nothing gets ruined when the snow hits.

Don’t panic if you’re starting to notice jack o’ lanterns and witch hats pop up in stores. The fall season is so popular now that it often seems rushed and is celebrated prematurely. But just remember: July and August are still full of summer fun, beautiful weather, and daylight until 9:00 at night. Your summer days aren’t over yet, and there are weeks left of memories just waiting to be made.
