Saturday Night Live returns on March 1st with Shane Gills hosting and musical Guest Tate McRae kicking off the remainder of the season after their 50th anniversary celebrations last weekend. Lady Gaga will also grace the SNL stage with her presence, both as host and musical guest on March 8th. She has hosted in this double capacity once before and attended as the musical guest four times before that. There’s lots to look forward to as this riveting 50th season continues. The SNL cast and crew are pulling out all the stops for this show that’s one of America’s modern-day treasures.
This season, Saturday Night Live celebrated its 50th anniversary as well as its beloved owner and producer, Lorne Michaels, with a 50th anniversary Homecoming Concert and celebration during their 3-hour primetime Anniversary Special on February 16. The 3 hour special honored their Saturday night programming full of fun throwback songs and sketches and included past cast members and lots of laughs. The double celebration welcomed SNL lovers into their comedy universe for the weekend and celebrated the laughter and talented artists that bring the nation together for Saturday night entertainment.

The concert on Friday night was hosted by Jimmy Fallon who even kicked it off with a fun rendition of Soul Man, while singing and dancing his own breath away. It was the perfect way to start the night that featured dozens of artists including Miley Cyrus, Bad Bunny, Chris Martin,Mumford & Sons,Back Street Boys, Wyclef Jean, Snoop Dogg, Robyn, Jelly Roll, and many more. There were also several oldies but goodies bringing lots of flare such as Eddie Vedder, Cher, The B-52s, and David Byrne.

As a former cast member of SNL and a hilarious conversationalist, Fallon was the perfect host for the Homecoming Concert. Fallon noted at the beginning of the concert that all the attendees of the concert were connected to Saturday Night Live in some form or fashion; whether former cast members or friends and family of the beloved comedians and musicians that have adorned the stage at 30 Rockefeller. During the Homecoming Concert, Lady Gaga even performed one of Lonely Island’s famous songs, Dick In A Box, alongside Andy Samberg, which totally wowed the crowd and was a hilarious contribution to the night. It will be exciting to see what fun and “Abracadabra” magic she brings to the stage in March.

The SNL guests and participants also commemorated the comedians and artists who have been a part of the SNL family and have since passed on, which was a wonderful contribution to the celebration. The Saturday Night Live cast has such a familial bond with one another and you can tell they were all touched by the time they spent as a part of the cast. At the concert, Adam Sandler even shared an original song reflecting on the fun they’ve had as a cast and in doing cameos and movies together over the last several decades. The SNL family is not only a great group of professionals who make us laugh and give us Weekend Updates, but a great network of comedians and other creatives that inspire and provide hope. The Weekend Updates that poke fun at both our nation’s parties is a humorous way of uniting us all through something that we can’t deny; everyone loves to laugh.
Though SNL has not posted who is to host on March 29, there is still an episode slated to go live, so there may be some speculations starting to arise as to who it might be in the coming weeks. It might be an emerging artist or another long-time comedian to close out the season. Presumably, there will be prior indication on social media when they announce the grand finale for this grand 50th season.
