Last Sunday’s 2024 SAG Awards were met with more impressive wins and stunning red carpet looks with celebrities adorned in everything from avant-garde white feathers to classy red sparkles.
Led by the talented Idris Elba, the awards ceremony included both scripted and unscripted comedic moments. For those who haven’t been able to catch up yet, here are the main highlights:
Oppenheimer & The Bear Dominate Again
Both Oppenheimer and The Bear maintained their respected reputations during the SAG Awards, each taking home three awards.
Oppenheimer’s wins included best cast in a motion picture, male actor in a supporting role (Robert Downey Jr.), and male actor in a leading role (Cillian Murphy).

Similarly, The Bear took home awards for best ensemble in a comedy series, male actor in a comedy series (Jeremy Allen White) and female actor in a comedy series (Ayo Edebiri).

Fans and movie goers suspect Downey Jr. and Murphy are bound to win Oscar Awards now that they’ve secured this year’s SAG Awards. Neither have yet to win an Oscar, but this year marks Downey Jr.’s third SAG win and Murphy’s first two, leaving them with an impressive track record.
Pedro Pascal & Melissa McCarthy’s Comedic Charm
Actress and comedian Melissa McCarthy performed a funny and scripted bit on stage with singer Billie Eilish, who has been a hot topic during this year’s award’s season for her People’s Choice and Grammy awards.
During their comedy bit, McCarthy joked about being a super fan of Eilish, asking her to autograph her forehead with a Sharpie marker. Audiences laughed in surprise when Eilish followed through and left McCarthy with a free forehead tattoo.
Winner for best drama actor or comedian? Pedro Pascal unleashed a sillier side of himself during his tipsy acceptance speech for his role in the Last of Us TV series, making his award for best actor in a drama series all the more iconic. He chuckled his way through his speech and stumbled a bit during his post-speech interview with Tan France.
The actor also said he planned to kiss actor Kiernan Culkin at the after party, referencing a continuous joke between the two beginning when Culkin jokingly told Pascal to “suck it” during his Golden Globes acceptance speech. Culkin beat Pascal for best actor in a drama series for his role in Succession.
Barbra Streisand Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award
The iconic actress, writer, singer, producer and filmmaker accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award for her extensive work in the film industry and philanthropic Streisand Foundation, which donates millions of dollars for women’s health resources. Streisand has been involved in cinema for over 60 years, garnering praise from actors Jennifer Anniston and Bradley Cooper during the ceremony.
Streisand’s humble and endearing speech detailed her beginnings singing and acting in the classic musical Funny Girl back in 1968. She also expressed deep gratitude for her artistic success, earning a honorable applause from the audience.
Other notable wins include actress Lily’s Gladstone‘s best actress in a leading role for Killers of the Flower Moon, making her the first Indigenous person to win a SAG award. Actors Ali Wong and Steven Yeun also took home big wins for their roles in their TV show Beef.
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees of this year’s SAG Awards! Be sure to check out our top picks for best dressed on the red carpet!
