Spring was officially welcomed on March 20, and it’s about time you did too! After a warm and cozy winter that had us all bundled up and staying in to watch our favorite holiday films, a switch-up is definitely called for right about now. Lay those old winter favorites to rest and reach for something that will have you jumping for joy about warmer weather! Here are rom-coms to put you in that spring mood after a long, cold season.
Make Me Believe
Woah, woah, childhood friends turned enemies? When did this ever scream spring? Make Me Believe, available on Netflix, follows the story of Sahra and Deniz, two childhood friends who had a falling out. Their two grandmothers have other plans for the pair, and will do pretty much anything to enliven the romance between their adult grandkids. The Turkish film includes stunning visuals of Canakkale, Turkey. From the beautiful, clear, blue water of the coast, to the colorful outfit designs, this romantic comedy is sure to put you in a mood befitting of spring.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
This classic 2000s rom-com starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey will have you laughing your butt off and perhaps shedding a tear or two. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days begins with advice columnist Andie Anderson, who is tasked with writing an article about how to make a man leave you in just 10 days. When Andie’s world collides with Ben Berry, an executive prepared to do anything to win his bet—make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days—things become ultra-complicated.
Bride and Prejudice
Yes, you read that right. Bride and Prejudice, a remake of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, is a Bollywood-style romantic comedy that follows the plotline of the popular original. Mr. and Mrs. Bakshi have four gorgeous daughters who are ready to be married off—the only catch is that their eldest, Lalita, is determined to marry for love. When Lalita encounters William Darcy, she’s made up her mind about him: he’s arrogant, vain, and the last man she’d ever be prevailed upon to marry. This cross between Western and Eastern film is done beautifully, and will have you ready to be out in the sunshine in no time!
Honeymoonish
The last rom-com we have for you is the Netflix original, Honeymoonish. This Kuwaiti romantic comedy follows the stories of Hamad and Noor. Hamad, the son of a successful business tycoon, is given a deadline to marry by the end of the month, produce an heir, or lose his inheritance. Noor is utterly heartbroken when her boyfriend breaks up with her to marry another woman, and plots for revenge: marry Hamad, and make her ex-boyfriend’s honeymoon a complete disaster. This film will have you dying of laughter, and rooting for even the most unlikely of scenarios—just in time for spring.
