Iman Vellani, the star of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film The Marvels, surprised fans at a special screening event in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Vellani was joined by director Nia DaCosta and composer Laura Karpman to introduce the film and answer questions from the audience.
Vellani’s appearance was a welcome surprise for fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the release of The Marvels. The film follows Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel (Vellani), and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) as they team up to save the universe.
During a red carpet moment at the screening, Vellani talked about the excitement of watching the film with fans.
“It’s so crazy to see a real audience,” Vellani said. “This is my first time seeing it on a big screen with an entire audience of genuine fans and cosplayers.”
DaCosta also spoke about delighting fans with the surprise appearance of Iman at the special screening, saying if she had an experience like that in her childhood, it would have been exciting.
“It’s amazing! It was really nice that we got to do this. I love the cinematic experience and I would’ve loved when I was younger if …I know if Toby McGuire walked in when I was watching Spider-Man or if Robert Downey Jr. walked in when I was watching um, Iron Man. So it’s cool to be able to be here with Iman to come and surprise, everyone at The Marvels it was really really great.”
