The special screening and panel for OWN’s upcoming series, Time of Essence, was held recently at the American Black Film Festival in Miami.
The series takes a look at the profound impact ESSENCE has had on Black culture in America for over half a century. In this captivating five-part, one-hour series, viewers will be transported to different decades.
From the groovy ’70s and progressing all the way to the vibrant present day, prepare to be swept away by the nostalgia as you relive the iconic moments that shaped our history and culture.
Each episode features firsthand commentary from legendary icons, trailblazers, dedicated staff members, and influential leaders who witnessed and shaped those pivotal moments. The show brilliantly combines candid commentary, never-before-seen footage, and exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses into the realms of entertainment, sports, politics, fashion, and beauty.
There’s also an impressive lineup of trailblazers featured in the series.
We’re talking about renowned fashion model and icon Beverly Johnson, her daughter Anansa Sims, Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Regina Hall, and Taye Diggs.
The series also highlights ESSENCE Magazine icons Mikki Taylor, Susan L. Taylor, and Caroline Wanga. These women’s essential roles really helped to form a captivating narrative.
Time of Essence is a collaborative effort between 51 Minds and ESSENCE Studios LLC, exclusively produced for OWN. The production team has come together to create a stunning tribute to the legacy of ESSENCE.
