The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted its 15th annual Governors Awards on Sunday, November 17 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood. Given out by the Academy’s Board of Governors, The Governors Awards honor those who have made extraordinary achievements in film, their lifetime, or outstanding service to the Academy. The awards presented include the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, and the Honorary Award. Recipients are announced during the summer and celebrated at the annual dinner gala.
The untelevised ceremony celebrated the lives and legacies of this year’s honorees; casting director Juliet Taylor, writer-director Richard Curtis, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and late musician Quincy Jones for their remarkable contributions to the film industry. The night served as an emotional unofficial start to the upcoming Oscar season.

Before the ceremony began, Hollywood’s biggest stars and 2025 Oscar hopefuls hit the red carpet, showcasing the latest fashion trends that will likely be seen throughout next year’s awards season. Among some of the night’s standouts were Saoirse Ronan, Kerry Washington and Anora star Mikey Madison who stunned in custom Louis Vuitton, Spring 2024 Elie Saab and Prada.
Angelina Jolie, accompanied by her son Knox Jolie-Pitt in a rare red carpet appearance, stole the show in a no-label golden vintage gown from the L.A.-based consignment store, The Kit Vintage. Jennifer Lawrence showed off her baby bump in a dark brown custom Bottega Veneta bodycon gown with gold accents from the house’s upcoming pre-fall 2025 collection. From classic gowns to more innovative ensembles, there was no shortage of amazing looks. Below we’ve picked some of our favorites from the night.
