The Sandlot

This family favorite was released in the Spring of 1993 and has remained a cult classic since. The movie follows a young, shy boy named Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) as he moves into a new town in the San Fernando Valley. Scotty manages to make new friends who all share one passion: baseball. But his new talented best friend, Benny Rodriguez (Mike Vitar), and the neighborhood boys find it difficult to play baseball on the sandlot next door to a “terrorizing” dog named Hercules. The boys embark on a wild adventure after losing Scotty’s stepfather’s prized possession in Hercules’s yard.

This family-friendly film introduces the true story of a wild seal named Andre, who was found by the Whitney family in 1962. While many townspeople love Andre, others make it their mission to get rid of the friendly seal. This movie not only includes moments of laughter and fun, but the heartwarming — and heartbreaking — realities of bonding with a pet.

My Girl

Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky) is an 11-year-old girl who lives with her father, Harry Sultenfuss (Dan Aykroyd) and her grandmother (Ann Nelson). Because Harry is the town’s funeral director, Vada and her small family live in a funeral home. As she tries to navigate life as a pre-teen, Vada is left with a host of fears relating to death and issues sustaining relationships. With her best friend Thomas J. (Macaulay Culkin) by her side, Vada sets out to create new memories during her summer break.

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” It’s a line we all know too well from the man-eating shark franchise Jaws. Jaws was released on June 20, 1975 and has remained a well-respected horror film that’s famed for its suspenseful music and gory shark attacks. This thrilling film takes place during the summer in the fictional town of Amity Island.
