Nicki Minaj Taps Fans for Input on New Tour Setlist

Rap superstar Nicki Minaj has announced the second U.S. leg of her “Pink Friday 2 Tour” called “Gag City: Reloaded.” Along with the tour announcement, Minaj called upon the “Barbz” to give her suggestions for songs to add to the tour’s setlist, dividing them into categories fans can vote on.

The Barbz came out in droves to advocate for their favorites, with Nicki receiving 4.1k and 1.8k comments on each post, respectively. This resulted in an all-day back-and-forth between Minaj and her fans as they hashed out the details of the suggestions. Some of the songs Minaj alluded to being added were “My Life”, “Mamita”, and “Tusa”. It’s unclear how long Minaj will be fielding suggestions from the Barbz and if any of these tracks will make the setlist when the tour kicks off in Philadelphia on September 4.

X user @__iamALEX wondered if this would affect the already existing setlist for “Pink Friday 2,” Minaj reassured them by saying, “Nothing to worry about boo. #gacityreloaded= masterpiece.” This implies that no songs will be removed from the “Pink Friday 2 Tour” setlist, which is bold, as the set already features 22 tracks and is over 2 hours long. While long tours have become somewhat of a trend in the wake of the 3+ hour “Eras Tour” by Taylor Swift, Minaj cranking up the length of her live show is still a bold move, and being so direct in asking for fan input is something that is rarely seen from artists of her status.

Considering the recent news around the “Pink Friday 2 Tour,” some fan service is definitely needed. Over the last few months, Minaj has arrived late to multiple dates across the tour. Canadian publication exclaim! reported that the rapper’s Toronto show in April started three hours late, at around 11 p.m. They note that this continued a three-week run where Minaj was alarmingly late to three different shows. While Minaj claimed someone sabotaged her ability to arrive on time, that didn’t stop fans from being furious with the rapper. With all of this in mind, crowdsourcing input for her setlist is a smart move, as Barbz who may have been reluctant to buy tickets will want to give this next round of shows a shot.
