“By order of the Peaky Blinders!”
This is not a drill! Peaky Blinders could be getting not one, but two spin-offs on Netflix. According to Collider, the streaming service will also include one sequel set in Boston and one prequel centering around the backstory of Polly Gray “Aunt Polly.” The British crime drama ended its sixth and final season last year. Peaky Blinders is a BBC Original with season premieres always airing on Netflix after it’s ended in the UK. However, Netflix is now considering creating its franchise based on the real-life street gang of Birmingham.
About the Original Peaky Blinders Series
A period timepiece set from the early to mid 1900s, The Peaky Blinders original series centers around an English street gang in Birmingham, England. The show dramatizes their brutal and violent actions from 1919 to 1933, and the birth of gang leader, Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy. With the help and support of his two brothers, Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson) and John Shelby (Joe Cole), Tommy would rise to power by the end of Season 1.
The British drama series is loosely based on the real urban youth gang with the same name who were active in the city of Birmingham from the late 1800s to the 1910s.
Peaky Blinders had a run of six seasons, with three airing on BBC Two and the fourth season on BBC Four. The fifth and sixth seasons aired on and ended on BBC One in 2022. The show also stars actors Sophie Rundle (Ada Shelby), Finn Cole (Michael Gray), Sam Neil, Annabelle Wallis,Tom Hardy, and the late Helen McCrory (Polly Gray “Aunt Polly”). All six seasons of Peaky Blinders can be streamed on Netflix.
What We Know About the Peaky Blinders Spin-Offs
According to a report from Bloomberg, there are reports that Netflix is working on two spin-offs following the end of the sixth season. The first spin-off takes place in Boston decades after the original series and follows the sixth season. The choice to set the story in Boston could be an indication of a more broad storyline for U.S. based crime boss, Jack Nelson (James Frecheville). In Season Six of Peaky Blinders, Nelson was the uncle of Michael Gray’s wife, Gina Gray, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. “Uncle Jack” seemingly had relentless dealings with the Shelby family, especially Tommy Shelby.
The second spin-off is likely to be a prequel to the back story of Polly Gray, who ultimately was the matriarch of the Shelby family in Peaky Blinders. “Aunt Polly” (Helen McCrory) is the mother of Michael Gray and would end of main the source of animosity Gray had towards Tommy after her death in season six. However, it was already known and written that Polly’s death would occur, after the devastating passing of McCrory in 2021.
