Grand Theft Auto 6 is almost here and is already set to make a big impact in the gaming world. Before its release, players will get an early look through a special event with a Hollywood vibe.
In a recent interview, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick announced that a Grand Theft Auto 6 stream on Netflix will happen on August 27. This event will kick off a larger marketing campaign. Zelnick described the stream as a “small snack” rather than a full meal, giving fans a taste without revealing everything.
Zelnick did not share specific details about upcoming trailers or marketing plans. However, his comparison to snacks and full meals hints that major announcements are coming.
After many delays in the GTA series and a long wait, players were disappointed that no gameplay trailer appeared. It seems the game will get a big marketing push after the Netflix event, suggesting a larger campaign for GTA 6.
Why Netflix and Can You Watch It Without A Subscription?
Releasing a first look of a video game on Netflix will have a major impact on the gaming industry. Other developers might start paying attention to this strategy. However, some fans have criticized it because those without a Netflix subscription have to pay to watch.

There are many identical comments under Rockstar’s social media posts about the Netflix announcement. Some people wonder why Rockstar chose Netflix over other streaming platforms. This isn’t the first time Rockstar has worked with Netflix.
Netflix teamed up with Rockstar in 2023 to release the GTA Trilogy on the service, allowing fans without gaming consoles to play the games.
For Take-Two, this isn’t an issue, Zelnick told IGN in an interview, “Six hours later it will be available on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and I think ultimately on many other outlets, and I think this is an example of Rockstar trying new things and marketing the title”
The GTA franchise already sits in a high/rare position where almost every audience, regardless of demographics, knows the name. The challenge is certainly not convincing people to buy the game; it is showing just how enormous this next life cycle of the franchise will be.
The Bigger Picture
Once again, this move is not the standard for every game, but this could potentially change that for the future. Smaller publishers cannot build up years of anticipation like Rockstar has done with every GTA installment.

Rockstar is using its strong cultural influence to make gameplay feel like an event. The six-hour window before it becomes available to the public gives it a unique identity, something we’ve been wanting in the gaming industry for years.
GTA 6 will definitely occupy the number one spot in the “Trending Now” category and will be dead center on Netflix’s home screen as soon as you log in to watch something.
The other big question is, will Netflix crash as everyone tunes in globally for the big GTA 6 reveal on August 27?
