He’s the tyrant king of Joseon and she’s a time-traveling star chef who’s forced to cook for him. Do things start out rocky? Oh, for sure. But do King Yi Heon (Lee Chae-Min) and Ji-Yeong (Lim Yoon-ah) eventually steal our hearts? Absolutely. Available on Netflix, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty has been blowing up all across social media. After a few episodes, a hybrid modern day historical period romance suddenly doesn’t seem too unrealistic. Don’t be surprised to find yourself clutching onto a book, hoping it’ll suck you into a world of royal delicacies.
The Buccaneers
Set in the 1870s, The Buccaneers features the lives of five American women sent off into London with two goals: lock down a husband and a title. The American girls, among them Kristine Froseth and Aubri Ibrag, face a cultural clash with British society, but that won’t stop them from getting their jobs done. The costumes, forbidden love stories, and historical feel to this show capture that Pride and Prejudice essence that we’ve been looking for! Erkenci Kuş
It all begins with a kiss in the dark and a search for a bearded stranger. Erkenci Kuş is a Turkish rom-com that follows the story of Sanem Aydin (Demet Özdemir), a writer working at her father’s grocery store and Can Divit (Can Yaman), a world famous photographer and business heir. Sanem is faced with two choices: get an actual job or marry her childhood friend, Muzaffer. Without doubt, Sanem joins the business world, but she’s far from smooth sailing. There are lies, brotherly betrayals, and of course, a love story that rivals all love stories.
Pirates of the Caribbean
She’s a lady and he’s….a pirate? I mean, we couldn’t not include a classic pirate romance on this list. Pirates of the Caribbean is an iconic film series that will have you doubling over with laughter and swooning at the same time. Miss Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) are the epitome of old-school love in these films. Even if you’re not here for the romance, Captain Jack Sparrow will seal the deal with his semi-genius, semi-foolish scheming. Pass me the popcorn, I’m personally sat for both.
